Assessment Question was created by Chazy
Hi
I am having one of those mornings where my brain keeps coming up with questions about the recent telephone assessment my Sister had.
I am wondering does an assessor have access to a claimants last review and award at their disposal to read through before the actual new telephone assessment commences ? I am just putting this to myself lol hope you can figure out what I mean.
Would the assessor know the score for each descriptor ? It had crossed my mind that perhaps in some cases given the assessor can not physically see the claimant that they may use the last assessment scores and some interpretations from the previously ''seen'' claimant assessment to fill in the gaps ? I just think that, and this is only in my head, that it would be a fairly easy way for the assessor to use previous scores etc to come to conclusions that don't necessarily relate to the telephone assessment but would give a fairly easy way ( good or not so good ) to score without actually seeing the claimant in person. Sorry I cant find the words today to make this clearer lol but I hope you can follow what I am trying to explain.
thank you

Hi Chazy
Yes, the assessor has access to the previous review. However, they won't have necessarily read it before the assessment. Some assessors do and some don't. I don't think from the evidence that is coming out from people who have had telephone assessments that they are automatically using previous scores because they can't see them. They are still making judgements on mobility by questions asked at the assessment, and some members are claiming this has led to unfair judgements.

Hi BIS
Thank you for the reply. I have a bit of a cynical mind when it comes to all things Government related including the whole Covid shambles relating in particular to those that are deemed venerable but that's a whole different peeve of mine. It was the scores for each descriptor I was thinking of, you will know far more than me about these things and I guess we can all only go on what the mostly awful feedback relayed on here says about the telephone assessments. I was picturing some poor soul petrified on their own anxiety off the scale telling the assessor ''no I cant walk outside on my own plus indoors is just as hard with my physical problems'', the assessor looks at the last report and thinks well she was seen in a centre last time and seen to walk fine, not panicking, not breathless no limp, no change in meds since then etc .... and then comes to the conclusion humm yes that seems more reliable than what I am being told on this phone call and award the same or less despite evidence suggesting the claimant is actually worse now than then.
I have been shielding completely for 8 months now, one solitary walk outside my garden for a flu jab lol I think being isolated and my Sister having her assessment has just got me over thinking these assessments although my own was straight forward, enhanced for both and for 10 years, I cant help but feel those suffering unbearable mental health conditions are treated on the whole appallingly.

Assessors should know the current award but they will not know the points as they do not receive a copy of the Decision Letter but if they are inclined they should be able to work them out from the previous assessment report.
