Possible PIP mess up? Help please! was created by Vince Raymondo
Hi all,
First time posting here, hoping that someone can shed some light on wtf is going on with my claim cause it's confusing me to no end.

I received a letter from PIP dated 8th August 202 saying that my claim is ending on NOV 14th and if i still needed PIP then I should call them to continue my claim. So that's exactly what I did, and I was told by the woman on the phone after waiting over an hour that I would need to phone through to make a new claim so I was transferred to make a new claim where I finally was able to begin the process after another 45 minutes of wait time.

I answered questions on the phone and was sent the "How your disability effects you" form which I filled out. It was due back on a date I don't have to hand - however I did phone them again to ask for more time as I was waiting on a letter from my GP. The woman extended the time to 13th November however I then received a letter the next day saying that I didn't have to return the form until 20th November. As it happens i managed to get my GP letter on the 17th and sent it back via special delivery and it was received on the 18th with receipt text from DWP to confirm this.

Now I am on ESA with a severe disability premium and in the support group. I was due my PIP payment on Monday 23rd - instead of receiving the usual amount of £238.80 it was now marked down to £170. I have just been paid my ESA payment and i'm now missing the severe disability premium - i have had no letters about any of this. I am freaking out because this is a HUGE chunk of money to be missing. I am waiting for a phone call from someone at PIP tomorrow morning but as far as I am aware i did nothing wrong? I found the initial letter to be confusing as I of course wanted to continue my claim but instead have had to put in a new one? Does anyone know if I will also be entitled to reclaim the severe disability payment as circumstances have not changed at all.

Really hope someone can help me out a bit on this.

many thanks

Hi Vince

Welcome to the forum, you might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explains where everything is

Welcome to Benefits and Work

In case you are not aware, your real name appears to be showing in the forum, if you want to change this then follow the instructions in the following FAQ

My full name is showing, how can I stop it?

Some claims do come to an end and have to start new claims. This generally happens to people who have won at a tribunal, but it does happen to others as well.

I can't tell you why your money has dropped. That is strange. It might be a clerical error or there might be an explanation. You need to wait until you get your call back. If everything is restored you will then have to get on to the ESA people and explain what has happened and asked for restoration of your SDP.

It's a mess through no fault of your own. Unfortunately, you can't rely on them, just restoring it, without double-checking.

Just to clarify, you said in your post that your award ended on 14 November, unless the DWP extended this date and you should ask why this has not happened as the Minister promised then that is the date that it ended, your re-applying for PIP will not have extended this.

They phoned me back today to tell me that because of when I sent my form back (within their requested timeframe) that i missed the 2nd of October award extension, despite this date being mentioned no where on any letter, it's the first i've heard of it. So i'm actually none the wiser as to what has actually happened, all i know is that i'm now in assessment phase, my HYDAY form is being looked at, but no date for a reassessment as of yet, so i'm financially screwed until a later date.

I'm not aware of any cut-off date for making a new claim, certainly nothing for October 2 I would involve your MP.

Thanks for your replies. I believe the cut off date of October 2nd was in relation to extending my current award which ended on November 14th. I am in a complete state of confusion with this situation, if the cut off was indeed Oct 2nd then why did I not receive the extension? I feel like tomorrow is going to be a long day stuck on the phone until I get some clear answers. I am not very good on the phone, this really is happening at the worst time.
