Just awarded PIP was created by Rubytuesday
Hi,

I've been having a search and read but I'm so confused so hope its ok to post this.

I had to leave work in Dec 19 due to ill health and claimed universal credit. I was put on the limited capability for work after a while and have just been awarded PIP. It is the standard rate without mobility.

Someone has told me I can claim a disability premium and also get some money so that I could get a carer which would make a big difference but it seems these aren't available when on universal credit. Has anything replaced them or are they simply gone? Is there anything else I can claim to help with this?

Thanks in advance for any replies

Hi Ruby

Welcome to the forum, you might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explains where everything is

Welcome to Benefits and Work .

There are two sets of requirements for the Severe Disability Premium.

First, to be eligible for the Premium, you need to be receiving a qualifying benefit such as the PIP Daily award that you have just received (there are others) you lived alone or were considered to be living alone and no one receives Carers Allowance against your PIP award or as a couple you can qualify if both you and your partner get a qualifying benefit (PIP daily living).

Secondly, to be entitled to payment of the Premium you need to be receiving an Income Related benefit such as ESA(IR), Income Support or Pension Credit but not Universal Credit.

To get an extra premium on UC you need to be in the LCWRA group, from your post you have been placed in the LCW group.

In order to qualify for the Support Group/LCWRA you need to;

* meet one or more of the relevant descriptors, or
* meet one of the associated Exceptional Circumstances rules.

The Support Group descriptors and the Exceptional Circumstances are listed in the Claiming ESA guides in the members area.
