PIP ; Daily Living Component. was created by Blingbird
Hello everyone,
My last post was because of the Daily Living Component my husband miraculously no longer is entitled to.
Since this, I acquired the PA4 form. What a revelation!.
There are too many points that have been completely incorrectly described . We know categorically what we said, as we would never say any different, and yes I have a short piece of recording to back this up. I have been on this site for years, and it helped us get through the last Tribunal successfully.
My point is; Nothing has changed about my husband from the last assessment five years ago. In fact everything is much worse. Why then do they interfere with peoples lives to some ones detriment. My husband needs to take his anti depressants, but cannot due to taking Diazepam for a post surgical complication related directly to his condition. If he does , he will be knocked out all day.! This was explained, but this has been made light of, so as long as he is not seeing a councillor again for Depression, he is fine and dandy. NOT NOW HE ISN'T! To compound this, they have also stopped my Carers Allowance. Nice one!, I have only just started receiving this, and regardless of what has been typed, I am still his carer; UNPAID. I carry a card to prove it, just in case I should forget, after being married to him for 28 years.
To summarise; I have enlisted help from the CAB, notified my local Carers association, and emailed my MP. We have had enough of these insults.
Sorry for the rant, Oh and yes I am sensitive at the moment, as the letter regarding the Carers Allowance landed Friday, the day before the Anniversary of my Dads death four years ago yesterday. He was my rock, and helped me through C..P!, like this.
Merry Christmas Everyone.x:(

Hi Deborah
Sorry to hear about your situation, unfortunately we are hearing this a lot on this forum.
The Carers Premium is payable for a further eight weeks after your husband looses entitlement to PIP daily living component.
Understand that the assessor is offering an opinion when they say that your husband can do the PIP activities, tackling these head-on is unlikely to be successful, you need to show that the basis of that opinion is founded on incorrect information, so try and refer to your evidence to undermine what they have said.
Also, try and stick to issues that lead to your husband scoring points, I often hear members referring to the assessors spelling, as an example, whilst it may show a lack of professionalism, raising it as an issue isn't going to help you get an award.
Lastly, make sure that you understand the criteria that you are being assessed against you can put the best case forward that is possible but you won't score points if you do not meet the PIP Descriptors.
Lets hope that your MP and CA can expedite put your case.

Hi Deborah, just want to add my sympathy to Gary's and I am sure all other readers'. No need to apologise for the rant, do just channel your totally justified anger energy into fighting this as coolly as you can. It seems to be the right moment to say "Nil carborundum illegitimum" in other words, "Don't let the b****s grind you down!". At least we all have Benefits and Work to give us wonderful help through the manure. Looking forward to hearing of your progress, even if it takes a long time, with best wishes, fellow carer, Denby

Hi Deborah
I know you are getting help from the CAB and hopefully your MP, but if you are putting in any more evidence you should consider writing a letter (if you haven't already) as his carer and the knowledge of how his condition impacts on his life and your family life. Don't underrate the value of such a letter. People often do - but next to your husband you are an expert in his condition and you need to talk from the point of view of what you have observed while always keeping the PIP criteria in mind.
There are two points that I would include in your letter. Firstly, the lack of counselling - proves nothing. Everyone knows that mental health services are chronically short around the country and the majority of service users are given a limited amount of time. Many are discharged when they are still sick, simply because they have had their 'share' of the services. It does not mean they are better.
Secondly, the level of medication is not necessarily a true indicator of a person's illness. There are lots of things that come into play - medical issues - like your husband, whether certain drugs can be suitable, side effects, the longevity of having to take them and other conditions. Unless your husband was seen by a psychiatrist - (which he wasn't) it is unlikely they are qualified to make such a judgement.
