Legacy Benefits & State Pension was created by jeff
Hello
Can you help please, i reach state pension age on March 23rd and on my last ESA award letter dated march 2020 it states because of an age change on March 23rd 2021 my ESA will go down to (amount) which is the amount for the support group. What is confusing is will i stay on this as a legacy benefit because I receive SDP ,and if so will my Severe Disability Premium and the disability income guarantee be paid along with it. or If my ESA stops do i have to claim Pension Credit and my SDP again.
at the moment i receive both contribution and income related ESA.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance
Jeff

Hi jeff

When you reach State Pension age your ESA will stop, you maybe eligible to claim PC depending on your circumstance.

If you are eligible, you can start your PC application up to 4 months before you reach State Pension age. www.gov.uk/pension-credit. You can still receive a SDP with your PC, if successful.

Disability income guarantee (Enhanced disability premium) will stop when you reach SP age.

If you have any further questions then please come back to the forum.

Hi jeff

You have to apply for PC: new claims 0800 991 234.

If you are in receipt of the daily living component of PIP then when you apply for PC you should be entitled to an additional premium (SDP) depending on your circumstances, this additional premium usually entitles the claimant PC but it would depend on your circumstances.

If accepted for PC then you may also be eligible to claim Warm Home Discount depending on your utility company also if you are aged over 75, a free TV licence.
