IF not allowed please say

Hi there hope everyone is well out there, my Husband got his Pension invitation last week to claim his NEW STATE PENSION and he got his confirmation letter yesterday stating how much he will be getting a month,
Now do We have to contact PIPs about his PIPS or is it all done without us doing anything and the same with the ESA. we are on at the moment, his Pension first payment is April, and the next thing I guess I have to do is go to the council about Bedroom tax payments to find out if we still have to pay it.

Hi Jacqui,

It is always good to be able to enjoy good news - and no bedroom tax for pensioners is certainly good!

PIP is not a means tested benefit so I see no reason why you should to contact them about your husband's pension.

I would be amazed if the DWP machine does not automatically stop his ESA when his Pension starts. If for any reason it fails to do so, you need to inform them then, and be aware that they will want back any overpayment.

Wishing you both a wonderful retirement!

My state pension is due tomorrow and I can confirm my ESA has been calculated up to that date and will no longer be paid. I didn’t have to notify anyone, the system gobbled it up and spat it out !

Hi Jacqui

The only thing I would add to what Catherine has written below is 'Mixed aged Couples'

On 15 May 2019, the law changed so that a ‘mixed age couple’ (a couple where one partner is a pensioner and the other is under pension age) are considered to be a ‘working age’ couple when checking entitlement to means-tested benefits. In which case under occupancy charge still applies.
