PIP extension letter, dont understand it. was created by Cemily
I was awarded PIP until Aug 2022, with a review 'not before' Aug 2021.
Today i got a totally unexpected letter from DWP saying the following
We suspended PIP reviews.....
We have now begun reviewing PIP awards again & we may look at some awards later than planned. To make sure you still receive your payments we have extended your award until May 2023
What this means for you
Your PIP award has been extended until May 2023
You do not need to contact us .
We will contact you again, before the new end date of your award, to review your award.
I'm confused - I mean i get that instead of the award coming to an end in 2022 it will now be in 2023, but as the reviews are just as stressful as the reassessments & have to be treated as such, its the next review date thats most important to me.
So my main question is... Do the reviews always routinely happen a yr before the end date (unless triggered by something else (eg a suspicion or a change in an ESA award etc)?
Meaning that the entire shebang has now been postponed a year & my review will now be happening 'not before' Aug 22, instead of 'not before' aug 21?
I know they're a law unto themselves & nothing is guaranteed but what would be the expected date of my review now, have a got a yr's reprieve or does it make no difference?
Many thanks to mods new & old

Hi Calmly91,
I don't know if i am correct or not but I believe that your award has been extended until May 23 but they can send you a review/renewal form to complete anytime from August 2022.
Kind regards

I’m confused about this letter too ,as I have received the same letter with same wording:
(My PIP review was due sometime in 2021)
We suspended pip award reviews because of covid outbreak.
We have now begun reviewing pip awards again and we may look at some awards later than originally planed.
To make sure you still receive your payments we have extended your award until February 2023.
What this means for you
Your PIP award has been extended until February 2023
You do not need to contact us.
We will contact you again before the new end date of your award to review your award.
So what does it mean?
Is the award extended and new review moved to 2023 or a close date? or should I expect it any time this year?

Hi JK2019 and Camly91
A few years ago, reviews were usually sent out one year before the end date of their claim.
Prior to Covid-19 we started to hear from members that they were receiving review forms 6 months before their end date. Now we hear from members that their claim has been extended, then a few days/weeks later they are sent a review form.
What I would say to both of you is to contact DWP 6 months before your extension end date, if you have not already been sent a review form and ask for a review form (AR1).

Were other members who received review form soon after extension also given long extensions for their award or were they given short extensions?
Because in my case it really makes no sense to extend my award for another 2 years, then send me review forms few days/few weeks after.
they could simply send the review questionnaire instead of extending my award for 2 years ,since it’s not expired.

Crumbs, so although my review wasn't originally due until august this year, the letter giving me a year's extension until 2023 could actually indicate that the review might be going to come even sooner? ! ....Like in a few days/weeks time? - which would mean they'd now be doing the review more than 26 mnths before the new end of the award?
