Hi IDS,
Thank you for your query.
UC (Universal Credit ) replaced various existing benefits when it was introduced a few years ago. This means that eg new claimants who can not work through ill-health, or those looking for a job now have to claim UC. However, claimants who have previously been on these benefits can remain on them unless their circumstances change and they need to reclaim under UC. The term 'legacy' stems from the fact that the benefits are left over from the previous system. There are 6 legacy benefits: Income related Jobseekers Allowance, Employment & Support Allowance, Housing Benefit, Child Tax Credits, Working Tax Credits and Income Support.
From time to time the Government review the amounts of benefit. All of the above legacy benefits are means tested and there is a maximum amount payable depending on the individual claimants circumstances. The 0.5% increase will provide a small increase in the amount of benefit that a claimant will receive each week.
I hope this helps.

Hi IDS

Yes it should have said £0.37pw (0.5% of £74.35)

As for your last comment, I can not answer that but will leave it for others to comment on.
