PIP extension overlaps reaching State Pension Age was created by Rumplestiltskin
I am the nominee for my wife who is in receipt of ESA and PIP (maximum points for Daily Living and Mobility.) I have received the letter stating her PIP has been extended to February 2022. She reaches State Pension Age in September 2021. I expect that ESA will cease from that point but I am confused about what to expect about her PIP and searching the forum there seems to be some contradictory elements related to 10 year extensions and "light touch" reviews when State Pension Age is reached. Is there a definitive answer anywhere?
I will also take this opportunity to thank all involved with this Forum as it is by far and away the top of the tree when looking for guidance. I have won 2 x Tribunals and got her the maximum PIP award purely though following the advice available here. Keep it up. Thanks for reading.

Hello Rumplestilskin,
And congratulations on your Tribunal successes!
The first thing is that if you are awarded PIP prior to State Retirement Age your award continues, unless you lose it at review. If you do lose it, you can reapply for up to a year, after that you would need to apply for Attendance Allowance.
The length of each award and the depth of the reviews is likely to depend on your wife's condition. If it is something which could improve with time, then they may well review more often and with greater eagerness. If it is something which is unlikely to improve, then you could reasonably expect 10 year awards with light touch reviews. (Note that as far as I know the DWP have yet to decide what a Light Touch review will look like.) Unfortunately, at least as far as I know, there is no definitive answer, but I hope that throws some light on why.
Thank you for your encouragement - it is much appreciated
Catherine

Thank you. Catherine.
I fear there is no hope of improvement in her condition so I will just get prepared to roll my sleeves up (again) should the need arise.
