Hey there,
I got 0 points on my decision for pip so asked for my PA4 to do a mandatory reconsideration.
Got it today so have read through it (why does it matter if I laughed, I have ME, not depression - sorry, that bit really irked me!!) I was wondering if any one could tell me what CH means?
They've put all the other abbreviation meanings on there but that...
Thanks!

Hi Ruby S,

I don't know what CH is - as long as this doesn't reveal personal details etc can you give us the context please?

Thanks

Absolutely, here are a couple;

CH noted will have regular shoulder sublux but is able to function once she resets (Washing and bathing)
CH shows she has no current specialist input for Mental health (Engaging others face to face)
CH shows she has no diagnosed cognitive conditions expected to cause a restriction (Making budget decisions)

There are some more but they're mostly copy and paste with some word changes.
As I was writing this I noticed there's a couple of MH too, which isn't on the list, which included;

MH noted moderate pain relief however shows good efficacy (moving around)

Also, sorry to bombard with questions, but is it wise to call out lies when I write the letter? I'm a bit worried that they'll protect their own.

Thanks!

Hi

I have done a quick search on Google but cannot find what CH stands for, it is not in the DWP list of abbreviations. If you have a copy of the assessors report, it should contain a list of abbreviations, failing that contact the assessor and ask.

DWP Corporate Abbreviations

Your primary task is to show that you meet the criteria, there are many reasons you may have failed, you need to address each of these but don't get bogged down in criticising the assessment report unless you can clearly show that it is incorrect, it is a lot easier to argue the facts of the situation.

I would not call the assessor a liar but point out what is incorrect and why, if you have medical evidence which support you claim then refer to it.

Hi Ruby S,

Thanks for your response. CH is definitely not a usual abbreviation. From what you have sent I'm wondering if it could mean 'claimant health'? MH is likely to be 'mental health'.
However, Gary is correct, try and focus on the overall picture. Let me give an example - Claimant reads the report and notices that the assessor ignored the fact that the claimant was breathless throughout the whole conversation, and had to be prompted several times by her partner. Additionally there are numerous spelling mistakes, and the report is written in very poor English.

In this example, one way to criticise would be to write down every single spelling error, page by page and then mention the important omission about the facts. That isn't very clear, and is confusing! A much better way is to say eg 'The assessment report is of very poor quality, this is indicated by the numerous basic spelling and grammatical errors, and that important information such as the fact that I was breathless throughout the whole assessment has been completely ignored. The assessor has also ignored the information on the claim form, and the letter from my Consultant...'

The above example can be tweaked to match the deficiency in your own report. Using a similar sentence to start with immediately raises a doubt about the quality/accuracy of the report. It is then easier to go through each activity section (descriptor) and say eg ' Preparing food - I can not do this because...the Assessor has ignored this information.'

The members guides provide other examples that you can use to form the basic structure of any Reconsideration letter or Appeal.

I hope the above helps.

Hi Ruby, in my experience, the assessors reports are quite contradictory, for example, what they write at the start of the report, observations etc, do not reflect what they say at the end of the report regarding what points you should get. I found a few areas where the assessor acknowledged information and evidence at the start but then went on to say there was not evidence when selecting a criteria .... good luck with your MR
