medical evidence was created by richmond
Hi, when I apply for universal credit and new style ESA I was told due to my dyslexia I can get help from the DWP and apply over the telephone. I was wondering do I have to make claim with my medical evidence ? if so how do I do this would I send it in later by post? I was told I can take a photo of my sick note but I have far too many hospital letters to do it that way.
Thank you for your advice

Hello Sam,
I have only spoken to one person who made a claim over the phone. They told me that the person in the DWP read out the questions on the form to them, and they gave the answers.
If you do that, and do not do anything else then you will have made your claim.
BUT if you want the best chances for claim you need to send in copies of the letters. You can photo them and email them.. Or you can send them by post. Whether you email or post you must include your name, address and NI number and say that the letters are in support of your PIP claim.
The easiest thing would be if you could find someone to help you, but I know that is difficult in these times.
I hope that helps.

Hello, should I put my N I number on each supporting letter? I have quite a few.
And do you know if when I apply for UC do they let the housing benefit know straight away as I already claim, i was told it will carry on for two weeks?
Many thanks

Hi Sam,
Yes, I would recommend putting your NI number on the top of each page - it means that if gets lost in their processes it is easier to return it to the right file. Similiarly, if the paper does not have your name on it, include that. Sometimes the second page of a letter does not include your name.
And yes, they do let housing benefit know.

Hi Sam, I used a handy method to deal with adding the claimant's name and NI No to every sheet last time. I typed them [or you could hand write in capitals] right at the very bottom edge of a clean sheet of paper. I then folded it just above the line of Name and NI No.
Then I hooked this sheet over the top of every document one after another before taking the photocopies to send in, so it appeared on the top on the copy. Saved no end of writing it out!
Hope this is handy for everyone,
Denby
