PIP review award remains the same BUT.... was created by Venusbrum
Hi
After taking over 6 weeks to complete my review form, had to ask for extra time. I was so relieved when after dreading to open brown letter, to find my award amount stayed same. I had been awarded enhanced for both elements for 3 years.
However after a week of sheer relief, I looked at award letter again. I have lost 4 points on the planning and following a journey, so although Im still receiving enhanced mobility, got 0 points to what I previously scored.
My dilemma is should I contact DWP, which I dread and try to avoid, or shall I leave it?
If I leave it, DWP will think I agree with their decision that I don't need any help with the planning and following a journey, which is wrong, because I do. Nothing has changed, so why have I lost points on that activity.
If I request mandatory reconsideration will they look at the total award again, leaving me at risk of losing other points?
Or can I just ring and tell them that I don't agree with just that activity and want it noted on my file.
Obviously I don't want any dealings with DWP so am reluctant to ring them and just let things be.
Any advice appreciated.
Thanks

Hello Venusbrum,
Well done on getting a renewal on what you believe is the right award for you.
If you request a Mandatory Reconsideration, they will potentially look at your entire award again, and that does of course carry a risk that they could lower the award.
Once you have enough points for the enhanced award the DWP do not have continue the exercise of seeing if you warrant additional points, and it is possible that this is what has happened here. The paperwork might throw light on that.
I also understand your concerns about not wishing to not objecting to lost points.
I think you have two options. The first is to forget the whole thing until your next review. The other is write to the DWP and saying that you agree with the award they have given you, you are not requesting a Mandatory Reconsideration, but you would like it to be included in your file that you that believe that you should have been awarded 4 points for Planning and Following a Journey becauseā¦
Hope that helps a little

Hello Venusbrum, if you follow Catherine's advice on a letter, send it recorded delivery, and keep the signing record in your file, this has two big advantages. You don't have to ring them [and if you did you never know what they actually type in your file], and you don't have to worry either that you haven't told them they got that issue wrong. This might not matter now, but who knows what the effect could be next time round; as you say 3 years, this could actually be in 2 after all. But if you have it recorded that they received your letter now asking them to note this, they cannot say you did not inform them or argue next time that it had not been the situation this time. That's what would give me peace of mind anyway. Best wishes, Denby
