Telephone Assessments was created by Crystal009
I have recently had a PIP Telephone Assessment and my! It was difficult. It lasted nearly 2 hours that was partly due to the fact I wasn't answering yes and no as advised by Benefits U can Trust info. I must stress the Health Professional became quite annoyed because it seemed I was not giving him the answers he 'wanted.' He then decided to ask the same questions but in a different way! He advised me to stop when I was trying to explain or give an example for a question. I had also asked for a three way conversation with my ex-partner who is my sort of carer. He said he had rang the number of John and it had gone to voicemail. John had been sitting there waiting for the call it never even came through never mind went to voicemail. We can check that and we will. My question is are all telephone assessments like this or did I just get a particularly bad one?

Hi Claire
Sorry that you had such a bad time. Are all telephone assessments like yours? No. Some are probably even worse and some are better.
Yours was certainly on the longer side. Saying they could not make a three-way call is a common complaint. I believe some assessors just don't try, which is always foolish because it's so easy to prove whether you had an incoming call. The last time I heard of a member complaining it wasn't true - they came back and said the assessor had misread the number!
We are also hearing other members complain that the assessor asks the same questions in a different way. Common practice to try and catch you out!
You can ring and ask for a copy of the assessor's report (PA4). It should be available 48 hours after your assessment from the DWP. Don't let them say you can't have it until after the decision - (if you want it) that's not true.
