PIP MR? Assessor said I said something I did not

Dear fellow forum members.

On my pip assessment report (paper assessment only) the assessor states that I said that I have difficulties preparing and cooking a simple meal “activity”.
The word difficulty implies that I can do the activity but with difficulty.

Yet I my award review form is evidence in itself I never said I could cook with difficulty.
On the contrary I said I did not cook, not out of choice, but because I was unable to do so physically.

Even sitting on a chair is virtually impossible for me to do due to severe OA, excrutiating painful cam impingement, legs deformities etc.

- Do I have good grounds for an MR?

- Also assessor said it is medically likely I could use aids in the kitchen but she does not write which ones (she mentions no grip/upper limb problems also).

Thank you very much.
Kind wishes

Hi Olympia

Yes you do have grounds to ask for a MR, what you have to do is go through the assessors report methodical highlighting everything that you disagree with.

Understand that the assessor is offering an opinion when they say that you can do the PIP activities, tackling these head-on is unlikely to be successful, you need to show that the basis of that opinion is founded on incorrect information, so try and refer to your evidence to undermine what they have said.

Also, try and stick to issues that lead to your scoring points, I often hear members referring to the assessors spelling, as an example, whilst it may show a lack of professionalism, raising it as an issue isn't going to help you get an award.

Lastly, make sure that you understand the criteria that you are being assessed against you can put the best case forward that is possible but you won't score points if you do not meet the PIP Descriptors.

In your MR, explain the difficulties you have as you have on the forum, have a look at our PIP MR & Appeal guide, half way down the page for details of the process, the PIP area also has template letters that you can use to make the request with.

When you have a better idea of the issues with your claim, come back to the forum and we will do our best to help.
