Moving location was created by percey
Hello,
I am hoping to sell my home and move location possibly from England to Wales. I am wondering whether a move to Wales will have any effect on the benefits I receive? I receive ESA and PIP. I don't really understand Universal credit, but hope a move won't trigger a need to reapply or make any changes.
Many thanks,
Percey.

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

Hi percey
Providing you do not have to claim Housing Benefit then moving from England to Wales should have no affect on your PIP or ESA for the time being, eventually everyone on legacy benefits will move over to UC.
You will need to contact ESA and PIP once you have moved and let them know your new address, we have had a few posts on the forum where members benefits have stopped as they had not let the DWP know they had moved.
Universal Credit (UC) is taking the place of 6 legacy benefits;
The benefits that come under UC are;
- Housing Benefit
- income-related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)
- income-based Jobseeker's Allowance (JSA)
- Child Tax Credit
- Working Tax Credit
- Income Support
Hope the move goes well, with no hitches. if you have any queries come back to the forum.

Many thanks for your reply.
Is there anything I should be making myself aware of ahead of possible transfer onto universal credit in the future?

Thanks for your reply. I'm now wondering what I need to be aware of with respect to the rolling out of universal credit and moving from ESA and PIP to UC? Do you have any advice regarding what I may need to prepare myself for?
Many thanks,
Percey.

Hi Percey
PIP will not be moving onto UC so that benefit is safe. In regards to your ESA I cannot say as I do not have enough information. With legacy benefits there are two types of ESA, CB ESA and IR ESA.
With IR ESA claimants maybe able to claim additional premiums depending on their circumstances.
The advice I would give you is to seek help from your local Welfare Rights Organisation who can take all your circumstances into consideration. You can find your local Welfare Rights Organisation to help you with benefit advice by clicking on the link below and putting in your post code, it will then come up with a MAP with a list of agencies. advicelocal.uk

Thanks Gary,
I'm on income related ESA so I do have the additional premiums, will I lose that when ESA goes to universal credit? I guess at the end of the day I'm wondering will I be worse off when the change happens and when is that likely to be?
Thanks Percey
