Severe Disability Premium when living away a lot was created by Finni
Am I entitled to Severe Disability Premium if I live away from home for most of the time?
In detail: I own a flat in London and it's my main home. I would qualify for Severe Disability Premium if I lived there alone. However when I am unwell I stay at my sister's house in another part of the country. She does not get any benefits, such as carer's allowance.
The time I spend at her house varies but let's say it's two-thirds of the time.
Would I get Severe Disability Premium?

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

Hi Finni
You would need to check with a specialist benefits advisor on this one, but if you are away for most of the time, I suspect the DWP would view that you don't live alone. It's a grey area and outside the remit of this forum.

If there's nothing to answer my query in the resources here, then do you know of any access to guides about disability rights which might contain this info?
The situation I describe of living away a lot when disabled must have come up before.

Hi Finni
I'm sorry, as I've already said this is outside the remit of this forum. I can't find anything on the government website about this or anything from doing a general search.

Hi Finni
I find the Disability Rights Handbook really helpful for specialist questions like this
www.disabilityrightsuk.org/shop/disabili...s-handbook-2021-2022
There is a discount which you can claim if you're on benefits.
There's also a helpline if the handbook doesn't answer the question.
