Awarded ESA Support group, will it help my PIP was created by MrH2020
I applied for ESA in March and was awarded Contribution based ESA from April.
I did this due to having to finish work due to ill health in January after either being ill or shielding for nearly 3 years on and off. I have an ISA so cannot claim anything else.
I then got a medical form to fill in and I sent all my Consultants Letters etc about my COPD detailing all the things they are trying to help me. I also stated the things I cannot do now or need help to do.
I have just today had a letter saying I have been placed in the Support Group.
I applied for PIP earlier in Feb but I have not heard anything about that yet, I know that there are delays etc.
Do you think the decision to place me in the Support Group will help my ESA claim?

Hi David
Welcome to the forum, you might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explains where everything is
Welcome to Benefits and Work
In case you are not aware, your real name appears to be showing in the forum, if you want to change this then follow the instructions in the following FAQ
My full name is showing, how can I stop it?
Although there is some overlap between PIP and ESA and there are many people in the support group for ESA who have also been awarded PIP, it is not a given. Although an assessor may be aware of other benefits a claimant may have they won't take that into account.

Thanks for your reply, I have been a member a while but I used all of the info I could from your guides to help me fill in the ESA claim and also the PIP.
I was curious if DWP had received my claim for so I called at about 11:30am today and they confirmed that they got it on 24th Feb I think she said and that I would have to wait until the assessor gets in contact with me.
I explained that I had just got my ESA for the support group but as I had not heard anything about my PIP I did not know if they had the form, I was reading postings on here saying that they had lost peoples.
Then approx an hour later I got a text message saying that my telephone assessment is on 14th May.
Is that just a coincidence, I have never done this before so I only know what I have read in forums like this etc.

Hi MrH2020
I don't like coincidences, I think you may have given them a nudge to get your claim moving.
You are correct, members have reported this happening to them which is why I don't like coincidences.
Good luck for the 14th May, make sure you go over our guides before the 14th for a better understanding of the criteria you will need to meet.

Read about the reliability element in the guide - if you cannot do something:
• Safely – in a fashion that is unlikely to cause harm to themselves or to another person.
• To a necessary and acceptable standard – given the nature of the activity.
• Repeatedly – as often as is reasonably required.
• In a reasonable time period – no more than twice as long as a person without a physical or mental health condition would take to carry out the activity.
then you should not be considered able to do the activity.
If you have any further questions, then please return to the forum.

I got my letter today confirming the appointment for next Friday.
I got a little nervous so I have asked for my appointment to be recorded as I know I will forget some of the things I said and I would have no recourse if I had no proof, I don't trust what could be written down.
The lady was quite nice on the phone but she explained that now my Friday appointment had to be cancelled and I would be put back into the list for recorded telephone appointments, I hope I did the correct thing.

HI MrH2020,
If you can stand the increased delay you did the right thing!
