Why do some councils websites still offer HB?

Apologies for asking two questions on the same day but I’m looking into moving and applying for universal credit however some of the council websites I’ve looked at still list SDP as a reason to apply for housing benefit rather than universal credit. Is this just failure to update their websites? Or do some councils have their own rules about housing benefit vs universal credit? It’s confusing me on which benefit I should be applying for and I’m very wary of disrupting anything I currently receive by mistake.

Thank you.

Hi MsJane

We can't vouch for the content of what councils display because it's outside the remit of this forum. The government has stated that it will be another two years before all claimants have moved across to universal credit so that may be one of the reasons for the information you are seeing.

Thank you for the reply :)

I’m not sure if this means you can’t answer this but just in case, should I go by the government website and apply for UC or is it worth going by the council website and applying for HB?

Thank you.

Hello MsJane,

Housing Benefit is being phased out and replaced by a housing suypport componant within Universal Credit. When you move and apply for UC you will be asked for details about your housing costs, in the same in which you were asked when applied for HB.

Morning. I would NOT apply for Universal Credit unless you ‘have’ to.
I receive HB as I am in the ESA(Support Group) and get PIP and SDP.
You will lose money if you move to UC.
