No response from DWP 6 months after assessment?

Hello All,

I am in receipt of PIP.

I had my second consultation /assessment early in November 2020 – I requested a copy of the PA4, which I received some 3 weeks later.

In late November 2020, I wrote to the DWP complaining about the numerous errors in the PA4 report.

My GP also sent a detailed supporting letter to the DWP in March 2021.

I have heard nothing from the DWP to date – not since I received the PA4 consultation report in November after the assessment.

I have not contacted the DWP so far: should I?

Is this lack of contact from the DWP “normal”?

Any advice appreciated, especially as regards what may actually happen in the near future regarding my claim. I am still receiving the monthly PIP payment.

Many thanks and best regards to All.

Nansen.

Hello nansen,

Although there are many variations in how long it takes them to make a decision, 6 months is unusually long. You do not say what triggered the supporting letter from your GP in March. Was that your request, or did they contact your GP? If it was the latter then it suggests that they are processing your claim, albeit slowly.

Either way I think it would be reasonable to give them a ring and ask where they have got to with your claim.

Hopefully before long you will receive a decision. If you are happy with that, you can relax until your next review. If you believe that you have not received the correct award(s) you can ask for a Mandatory Reconsideration (MR). This is basically just telling them you believe that they got it wrong and please will have another look. There is all sorts of help as to how to go about submitting an MR in our guides under the PIP appeals section if you follow this link.

PIP resources

The only thing you need to be aware of at this stage is that should you wish to submit a request for a MR you should do so within a month.

You will continue receiving your previous award payments until they make a decision on the new one. They will then be adjusted to be in line with that decision. If you request a MR or even later go to appeal and it is decided that you were not given the correct award any additional payments will be backdated to when they stopped paying them. (Hope that makes sense.)

Please do come back to us if things do not go as you think they should and you need any additional information.
