Clarity on 'Activity 9' was created by OUTLANDER
Hi All, Can someone please clarify Activity 9: Managing therapy or monitoring a health condition'. My GP is monitoring my medication and mental health, I receive counselling once a week. I also have to monitor my own mental health for fluctuations and have access to mental health services when I need them. I'm also being monitored by a hospital consultant for further surgery. I also use therapeutic therapies that I manage at home for more than 7hrs per week and take a cocktail of drugs that I monitor in conjunction with the health professionals responsible for my care - why have I been awarded zero points for this activity?. Would this be monitoring and managing a health condition?
if you can clarify the 'MONITOR AND MANAGING THERAPY' for me?

Hi Pamela,
To get points under Managing therapy Descriptor 3 requires that you either need physical help to actually take medicines, or prompting, or perhaps and aud such as a pill crusher or dosette box. To score points for monitoring health, this has to be done by a non heakth professional, so going to GP or nurse doesn't count. Remember also, that this has to happen on the majority of days so unless you are constantly at the GP it wouldn't count anyway!
Things like checking for diabetes, epilepsy, blood pressure, or perhaps some mental health problems that require monitoring across the day would comprise this descriptor. But this would need to be done by another person. If you can manage to do this unaided, that doesn't count either.
Likewise any home treatment such as dialysis, tens machine, nebuliser or physio exercises must require the help of another also. Again if you can do these successfully without help then no points can be scored.
All of the PIP descriptors gain points when you can't do the activity or you need some form of physical help, or a gadget.Even if you are profoundly disabled but can manage properly by yourself that is safely, repeatedly, without taking too long and in an acceptable manner, then no points will be scored.

I hope that helps.
