Private health insurance & CB ESA was created by JJ
Hi Team
I am trying to find out if someone's private health insurance payments (Income Protection) would have an effect on their contribution based esa.
These would be regular payments that have materialised due to the person paying into a private scheme. They would qualify for CB esa due to their national insurance contributions.
I understand that the CB esa would only be affected if the person was receiving income protection payments from an employer (or ex employer) via premiums paid by the latter.
However I am not really sure.
I hope you can help.
Thank you.

Hi JJ
Unlike means-tested benefits, there is no income and savings test for contributory ESA. However, your contributory ESA is reduced by half the amount of any pension or permanent health insurance payment received in excess of £85. www.entitledto.co.uk/help/employment-and...e-contribution-based

Thank you Gary
Am I right in thinking that anyone in receipt of care element of PIP would be exempt from this type of deduction ?
Thank you.

Hi JJ
I am not aware of anyone in receipt of the daily living component being exempt.
