Completing the PIP form? was created by Marina
What happens if you cannot complete the form by hand? I have rheumatoid arthritis and holding a pen let alone trying to write is extremely difficult these days, my hands and fingers are swollen most of the time and I cannot grip. I have chosen to type my form out, if they refuse to accept it in this format could that be considered to be discriminatory?

Hello Marina,
It could most certainly be considered to be discriminatory. However I would not expect you to have any problems with this. I regularly just fill in the first few pages by hand, the name address stuff and any tick boxes. After that I put in each of the text boxes 'please see separate sheet' and just print off what I have prepared. (And other than having only semi legible handwriting I have no excuse as you do!)
So even if you have prepared the whole form on your computer and print that out I would be stunned if they complained, particularly if you include an explanation as to why you have done it as you have.
Just make sure that you don't miss any sections out, put in clear headings, and on each sheet of paper you send in you need your name and NI number. I would also include the empty form in the pack you send to them since it includes a code which identifies your application.
Hope this helps,
Catherine

Hi Marina… I too have RA and have poorly fingers and hands.. I scanned my application into my computer (my scanner has OCR, which you will need for this) filled it in and printed it out.
I did the answers on a separate document, and then just cut and pasted them in.. It took a while to scan in, but now I have an electronic copy of my form which I can keep on my computer, as well as a paper one in my numerous PIP box files.
Ask some technically minded soul to do this for you, and just to email you the scanned document..
Mine was accepted without any fuss. It is the QR code they need.
Good luck. …. Any technical Qs please do not ask me!!!
