Hello Joanne,
It is amazing the things which the DWP now assume that you can do if you can drive a car!
I would recommend taking a very logical approach to this. You know what you cannot do, and you need to explain why this is not the same action as driving a car. For example, if they are saying that you can bend down to put on shoes and socks, clearly you can point out that that is not a movement you carry out whilst driving. More likely they are saying something like because you can move a gear stick you can peel a carrot. Think about how, for you, these actions are different, and then be ready to explain why. In that example it may be that you move the gear stick by pushing it with the palm of your hand, but you can’t reliably hold something like a carrot to peel it. Also think about how holding a steering wheel compares to the action(s) in your daily living which you struggle with and again explain the difference to the tribunal panal.
Just a quick heads up too, you are likely to be asked how you get to your car, get in and out of it, how far you have to walk to it at home and how far you walk when you get to your destination. It is good to be ready for these questions so that you (or someone else on your behalf) can measure out the distances in advance.
I wish you success in getting your correct award at Tribunal,
Catherine
