Are PIP review dates being extended for over 65's?

Hello.....

I just wondered if this was an overall policy now.

My husband transferred to PIP from DLA in 2019, firstly being refused and then on mandatory reconsideration being granted.

He was initially told it would be reviewed in August this year (2021). Sometime last year he received a letter stating that due to Covid the review would take place in May 2022. He has recently received another letter saying that as he is over retirement age the policy now was to leave reviews for 10 years after the initial award. It is now due to take place in August 2029! That is a tremendous relief for me as I have to deal with it all for him.
How I shall deal with it in my 80's if I have to I don't know but I shall ignore that prospect for now!
As I don't remember reading anything about this on these news letters I just thought I'd write and ask if this applies to everyone over retirement age now?
Thanks for your time.

Hi Pearl

Depending on their condition but for those of state pension age it is an overall policy.

Your husband has received an On-Going award which will be reassessed using a Light Touch review ten years later. We don't know what a Light Touch review will consist of as the first ones will not be done before 2023 at the earliest.

Come back to the forum and forum members will help you deal with it in 10 years time, in the mean time ........ relax and congratulations, we have had a few members who also have been given the good news.

Hi Pearl as Gary has also stated, the DWP did state that claimant getting near, or retired most would be granted an ongoing award.

Also to add an on-going award is the highest under PIP. Re the light touch.

This is the latest from the DWP on light touch ongoing awards.

DWP Response

Following a search of our paper and electronic records, we have established that the information you requested is currently not held by this Department.

To be helpful, the light touch process has yet to be fully designed (the first ones will not be due until 2023 – 10 years after PIP was first introduced) but we would not expect it to involve a full assessment unless something has significantly changed.

The review is intended to maintain a minimum level of contact with claimants. We will continue to involve our stakeholders in designing the review process so that it adds value and best meets the needs of our claimants.

If you have any queries about this letter, please contact us quoting the reference number above.
Yours sincerely,

DWP Central Freedom of Information Team Department for Work and Pensions.

I have also heard some claimants that are on ongoing awards getting reviewed earlier than after 10 year point? Why the DWP are doing this god only knows, big questions need to be answered why some are getting reviewed earlier rather than after the 10 year point, as my ongoing award clearly states "this will be after the 10 year point"

If they try and review mine earlier I will rais hell with them.

I was formely known as (GoingOffMyHeadWithThisGovernment) Won PIP November 2017 ongoing award HR both. Now kept and got my ESA Support group but took a while.
