Hi everyone :)
I asked on the phone several weeks ago for my PIP foems 9as, of course, didn't want to do this over the phone). They sent me what seemed to be only Part 1 which had no questions about point-scoring??

I sent this off and now, I have recieved a simple one-page letter saying I must call the New Claims Team on 0800 917 2222

I am very nervous about doing this because I do NOT want to be asked questions over the phone. I was wondering if you could give me advice about this please? Is it OK for me to call this number? Will they try to take my info over the phone, or is it just to get the ball rolling?

Thank you in advance
Sincerely
Brian

Hi Brian

I don't know what information you have already given them, but they need the following:

Which of the following conditions applies to you.
• mental health condition
• behavioural condition
• learning difficulty
• developmental disorder
• memory problems
(Can be one or more)

• your National Insurance number
• your address
• your date of birth
• your bank or building society details
• your telephone number
• the name of your doctor or health worker you want the DWP to contact
• details of any time you’ve spent out of the country
• details if you’re in a care home or hospital, or if you’ve recently been in a care home or a hospital
• whether you have a terminal illness.

(If you have already provided all this in what you sent back to them - it may be something is missing). They do not go into great detail. I've known people to say they don't have their doctor's address and they are just told to put it on their PIP2 form. Likewise, you are not expected to go into details of your medical conditions - because that is done on the form.

I can't say exactly why they are calling, but I think it is simply to get the ball rolling and you should ring them.

You can have a look at our PIP Guide to claims and reviews if you wish to know more - page 12. www.benefitsandwork.co.uk/help-for-claimants/pip

Hi everyone,
Hope you all coping ok in this heat.

I asked your advice about this letter I received and having called them (which I HATE doing), I am now more confused?

Top left of letter is states: reference: PIP.0110 and the first paragraph reads so:

We have received your letter with regards to making a new claim to PIP, in order to do that you will need to call the new claims team on 0800 917 2222

--

I had already done this several weeks before? But anyways, I did this again over two weeks ago and the response I got was pretty short. They said if I had already made a new claim I needed to call a different number (??) 0800 121 4433 so I asked the lady, 'Why does it say then I have to call you on this number?' She was quite abrubpt and said to call the other number..

I did this. All I got was a long recorded message saying if I had already made a new claim (and quoted the first number!?) that I had to basically do nothing else. ??

In the end I hung up as it was confusing? And now, I STILL have received no actual 'point-scoring' forms. When I received the first 'form' ( the bit of paper torn off and left says PIPFLY0215) this just asked me doctors name, account info, ni number etc. I even wrote to my doctor asking if they could supply a letter of supporting info in regard to my on-going Cervical Spondylosis and depression problems, but they said they dont do that. (But I thought it said on this initial form you had to ask for it, so again, confused??) The surgery simply said, 'PIP will contact us if they want any info.'

So.. it's weeks now since I first called them over the phone and asked for new claim forms to be sent out and I am no further along it seems. I wanted your advice to see if I have done something wrong or it simply does take this long?? I don't want to fall or trip-out out of the 'ball-rolling' system..

Thank you very much for any assistance you can give me.

Hi Brian

What an absolute mess It's certainly not you! You haven't done anything wrong. Unfortunately you're one of a number of people who receive contrary advice and then can't get through to someone who is helpful.

It sounds like they are expecting people to wait until they contact you. They have had IT problems and there's backlog of claims, however new claims are supposed to be a priority. I would keep trying to use the 0800 121 4433 number as it is meant for enquiries so I don't think the recorded message will be in place all the time.

Be aware that many doctors refuse to provide letters. The DWP rarely contact GPs or any other medical professional.

Hi Brian, as BIS says, they rarely contact medical professionals, in my experience only when doing a paper based assessment. So your surgery are with all due respect either being lazy or fobbing you off. If you possibly can, I would see if money talks. I always start conversations with our daughter's GP' admin by telling them clearly I totally expect to pay whatever it costs for this letter. Last time it was £42 [£35 +£7 VAT]. Worth every penny if it is helpful. Oh and take no notice of wording on the form once you do get it about don't send letters etc!
Best wishes, Denby
