12months and still no dwp help was created by Ant62
Over 12month my bro in law suffered an almost fatal heart attack and had to have emergency operation to place 3 stents.
The cardiologist as said that he is lucky to be alive and a delay of upto 30mins could have killed him....

He was told by the cardiologist that he will never work again put him medication to help prevent another heart attack.....
Since that day he is getting depressed with it all as he as gone from a strong fit health person to a shadow of what he was...
The DWP will not provid any financial help until the assessor as done a face to face asessment...
Now over over 12months later he as had another heart attack and is looking at open heart surgery or a by pass the cardiologist is waiting for the meds to clear blood clots in his stents.......
They fear that his next heart attack could be fatal what can he do about the dwp and the assessor........

Hello Ant62,

What a terrible situation.

I am assuming when you say the DWP are insisting on a face to face assessment you are thinking of the telephone assessments which most people are currently having since they are only just starting to roll out face to face again. However, whatever type it is, I would suggest that your brother in law asks his consultant or GP to write a strongly worded letter saying that he is not fit to undergo a face to face assessment or telephone assessment currently and will be unable to do so for the foreseeable future. On that basis they are discriminating against him and they respectfully request that a paper assessment is carried out asap.

There is a slightly sadder route you can go down, if the consultant thinks that brother in law may have less than 6 months to live he can make a claim under ‘special rules’. He will need his GP, a hospital doctor or specialist nurse to complete a DS1500 form which gives his diagnosis, prognosis and treatment plan. If he then submits this to the DWP he should get the award very quickly. If things go well and he survives then they will review his award after 3 years.

Well done for doing your bit in supporting him!
Catherine
