Can DWP get my PIP sorted. was created by emeraldshine
I was awarded my PIP in February 2019. I was able to get full mobility component and standard
rate for the other component. I had lodged my appeal before it happened and the DWP then sent me a letter saying they were looking at the appeal but they had changed their mind about my original decisions and were awarding me my PIP until December 2028.

I heard nothing until November 2020 when what was a standard letter during coronavirus arrived telling me that award reviews were suspended because of Covid 19 and mine was suspended until March 2022. I followed this up with them and was told that yes my end date was December 2028 and someone had forgotten to put the correct information into the computer and it would be done and rectified.

Everything has been okay or so I thought until I had to check my bank account yesterday to see how my money is doing. I have been poorly for almost 8 weeks (worse than I usually am)
and have been given two lots of medication that had bad side effects for me which my GP has now taken me off. I have to wait a week and let my body clear of these tablets and then she will look at something else. Anyway my bank account showed that my pension credit was scaled down in end of May 2021 ( I have received no notification about this at all) and with being so ill all I made sure of was having money to have food brought in to me.
I phoned the pension credit line and was told yes we paid you less because you no longer received the disability premium from end of May in regard of PIP. I am still receiving my PIP and it was paid Monday. Also I receive my State pension.
I was told she would send over an e-mail to the correct department and get my missing payments sent to me.
I have been having slight dizzy spells today could be because of ending the medication but all this stress has got me not knowing what these people are doing.
I only went to check my money because thought there would be enough to get one of those
good chairs that are easy to get in and out of as I have long term back problems and normal sofas or chairs are uncomfortable now.

So do I need to write to DWP and say anything as quite honestly I do not know what they are up to.
Help would be appreciated.

Hello Pauline,

A client of mine had almost exactly the same problem. It came down to the fact that although the PIP part of the DWP had updated their records they had failed to inform the ESA part of the DWP, which paid his disability premium.

You need to ring the Pension Credit line again and explain what has happened and you then need to send them a copy of the letter saying that your PIP is awarded until December 2028. It might take a few weeks to all come together, but you will eventually get your missed disability premium payment(s). I would also advise you to give the Pension Credit department a couple of weeks and then start giving them a ring once a week to chase them up. It can make a difference.

I hope you are feeling a bit better now,
Catherine

Hello Katherine,

Thank-you so much for replying. I have been giving some thought to what the DWP lady told me about my Pension Credit and the disability premium. Nothing makes sense about that because I do not receive ESA and have not had that benefit for ages. I receive my basic State pension, my P.I.P (I was able to claim PIP because I had previously been on DLA and was still in the age group where I could get PIP) and then the pension credit I was getting. I live alone and no changes in circumstances. I am puzzled what is going on and not being too well is not helping me.
Any more thoughts what I should do.

Hello again,

Assuming you meet the criteria, the premium is also payable if you are receiving pension credit. I only mentioned ESA in my previous answer since the client who experienced the same issue as you have had was in receipt of ESA, not Pension Credit.

As I said before, give the Pension Credit Helpline a ring and explain what has happened.

Catherine, sorry to a nuisance to you and thank-you for your replies.
One small detail I forgot that the DWP said to me when I had phoned them earlier.

I asked them why I had not received a letter or any notification that the pension credit
would be reduced at a certain date. The last letter/notification I received from them was 2nd March 2021. The letter said that I should keep it as my evidence of my pension credit. It then said that some benefits will change and it told me of an increase of my pension credit from April 2021.

The DWP woman said that the letter would have told me about changes to my pension credit from end of May 2021 as my disability premium was not getting paid any longer.
I explained to her that the letter said nothing about that and only mentioned that there would be increases to other benefits and other letters would be issued for the other benefits.
I should only contact them if any thing changes and that was the end of the letter.
If my benefit was going to change then surely they would have contacted me and I could have known about it sooner instead of being ill for 8 weeks and then suddenly finding out that way.
I suppose this does not make much difference to what I have already told you but like Catherine said maybe I need to phone them again tomorrow.

Pauline, please don't think that you are being a nuisance!

I can only go back to my experience with my client which I mentioned in my first reply to you. His premium just stopped without any notification, and it took a little digging to work out what had happened.

If you health allows you to, ring up early in the morning, since you are likely to have to wait slightly less long on the phone. And keep waiting until they answer - I have never known them not to, unless you ring late and they have gone home by the time they get to your call.

Hope they are able to sort it out for you,
Catherine
