How long pip appointment/decision? was created by Chlorinated
Hi
After they receive my pip form is there an amount of time before I should expect a reply or receive a letter to get an face to face appointment?
If they decide I need a face to face assessment how much notice will they give in advance. Obviously 1 week it too short but could they do that or are they required to give a fixed amount of notice eg 1 month in advance?
Thanks

Hello Chlorinated,
At least in my part of the country they are currently saying that it will take about 8 weeks from them receiving your form to getting an appointment for an assessment. If you would like a better guideline for yourself, you can always give the DWP a ring and they may be more specific.
Unfortunately they are only required to give 1 week's notice, although in my experience it is currently more like 2 weeks. If they give you a date which it is not possible for you to keep then give the agency who are doing your assessment a ring. The number will be at the top of your appointment letter.
We have heard of members being offered appointments at an even shorter notice than 1 week, but unless it suits you to take it, you are not obligued to do so.
Although they have restarted limited face to face appointments, the majority are stil telephone ones. If you have a good reason to prefer one type over the other, then you need to let the assessment agency know.

Hi Chlorinated, the important thing is to make sure you ask them to record your assessment. You could try doing this now or when you get the appointment. I'd try now, get it done out of the way soonest. It is still likely to mean you wait a bit longer. The reason is the assessors are not obliged to agree to themselves being recorded and many refuse. What have they got to hide? you might well ask. I myself would not want an assessment done by someone unwilling to be on the record. Though it's your choice!
