Complaint re telephone assessment was created by KazM
After an horrendous 82 minute pip review telephone assessment from a lady who claimed to be a mental health nurse I was left feeling so distressed. She wouldn't listen to me and was so patronising. I then requested my paper assessment and as you can imagine it was all based on her opinions rather than fact. It included many untruths. I am working my way through it, highlighting and writing up to prepare for a possible MR, as you advise. However, I just wanted to share that I contacted the Dwp who were very understanding and advised me to put in a complaint and they would refer my case to a case manager before a decision is made. I received the complaints form and returned it the same day. I was very surprised how the complaints team contacted me immediately and asked me for further details. The chap who rang me was extremely understanding and assured me this is taken seriously and will be dealt with. I just want to say apparently there are many caring, capable assessors but sadly I encountered this one. And whilst it is our right to appeal decisions we also have the right to be spoken to in an appropriate manner so if you do encounter this please do inform the Independent Assessment Team. If we don't complain about this lack of care these assessors get away with it and let's be honest how many are doing these from home and can therefore say just what they want!!

Hi Karen,
What you say is totally correct. Well done you for complaining. If no one does complain certainly nothing ever will get done. I know that making a complaint in the circumstances you describe is often the last thing you wish to do but it really is important. Thank you for sharing your story.
Again, well done.

Hi Karen, thank you for complaining about your unjust treatment. You are speaking on behalf of many people some of whom will not be up to complaining.
Sending all good wishes to you that you receive the outcome you deserve.

After my assessment I probably complained to the wrong department.
I put in a complaint to the Nursing and Midwifery Council which was not taken
seriously and basically got fobbed off from the adviser. This was not before they asked
me to email all my application forms for PIP to them. Why ask for them when
their intention and mind was already made up. Very unprofessional.

I'm so sorry to hear that. So frustrating. I just called the Independent Pip Assessment number who had sent me the appointment letter. They were very helpful and sent me a complaints form. There is a procedure they follow which will involve speaking to the assessor involved and her manager. I did return it straight away and was surprised how fast they responded. I'm certain this telephone assessment was carried out from her home hence why she probably thought she could just say whatever she wanted. So distressing on the day but that upset has turned to anger and I want her spoken to. Let's hope we can get this dreadful behavior stopped. Take care.

You may want to read my post "Where do we go from here". My friend has received terrible unprofessional treatment from Capita. We have complained to Capita and basically they don't care, sticking up for each other and denying such things. We are making a firmal complaint by letter to them. We a!so complained to PIP about them but they didn't send us a complaint form, however it is obvious that they got in contact with Capita and heads rolled, because Capita have lied through their teeth to save their necks.
