Thank you for the help offered to me i have now wrote to Dwp and will no doubt wait for their response i cant believe i still have to go for assessments at all as three prior assessments have been stopped half way through due to my illness and three times i have had to attend tribunals for different benefits. the last one my gp sent a letter in support of my appeal.
I get so worked up around claiming benefits you need a degree in filling out forms as if my disability and my cancer diagnosis isnt enough to deal with but hey a great big thank you for your comments.

Hi anne.young2

Thank you for your post, keep us informed on how you get on.

The forms can be a nightmare which is why B&W produced guides to try and help.

Having sent the letter you prepared for me, The results so far is, they have extended my pip until Dec of this year and have put me in for a telephone assessment on oct 1st.
I have never had a telephone assessment before and I'm all ready at panic mode.
I do have mental health issues i.e. agoraphobia, ocd, anxiety and depression with suicidal tendencies, After an accident i have a spinal stenosis which causes me a lot of pain and is now restricting my ability to walk and more recently i had a bowel cancer diagnosis and after surgery have been diagnosed with permanent nerve damage resulting from the surgery with some horrific consequences adding to the pain and depression and anxiety. I have included this information as you helped me without knowing any circumstances.
I am just worrying i wont be able to pay my carer if it does not go through which will make my acrophobia worse as i wont have somebody to come outside with me , my transport will go also and all the house work will be left and all the personal care will be left to my husband.
If any body out there in benefit and work world can advice me on telephone assessments i would be grateful.

Hi anne.young2

It can be very daunting we do have advice on telephone assessment in our guides, look at page 93 onwards, page 107 gives a list of questions you may be asked.

Remember, it is not your conditions that are being assessed but the limitations that result from them, have a look at our PIP Claim guide for the criteria that the panel will be questioning you about.

www.benefitsandwork.co.uk/help-for-claimants/pip

- Write yourself a bullet point list of any particular points you want to get over, so you have it by you during the assessment, tick them as you cover them during the assessment.
- have paper and pens to hand to make any notes such as the assessors name, date, time
- make sure you are seated in a comfortable chair, you are going to be there a while and at table to make notes
- if you can't hear or understand what is being asked then ask them to repeat the question, don't let them rush you
- don't forget to have a glass of water if needed so you don't get a dry throat and lose your voice!

Don't forget to contact DWP 48 hours after the assessment and ask for a copy of the assessors report called PA4.

Hi anne.young2, and sorry to hear how their callous behaviour has affected you. Your other alternative is to urgently seek a paper based assessment on the grounds of Overwhelming Psychological Distress. If you already sadly have known suicidal tendencies I would hope your GP will be willing to write you a letter [though I recommend offering to pay for this, daughter's last one cost £42] to say that a phone or face to face assessment will cause you Overwhelming Psychological Distress. It does need to have those words in as though not guaranteed, it pushes some sort of button in DWP. First off you can get your husband to call on your behalf to explain, and send the doctor's letter later when you get it. If the first call handler he gets is not sympathetic, try again later -that's how I rescued our daughter from a phone assessment at 5 days' notice. And he can ask for a call back from a manager which I also did which helped too.
If you do this or go through with the phonecall, do ask [hopefully they will accept husband calling] for a copy of the assessment report 48 hours after a phone one of as soon as you get a text saying the report has been sent, or every few days if they don't have a mobile number for you or no text comes. When you have the report either way, this is your chance to correct any omissions, factual inaccuracies [polite-speak for lies] or twistings by writing ASAP to the Decision Maker coldly setting it straight.
Best wishes, Denby
