New Diagnosis help was created by dan.harries89
Hi B&W,
I currently receive UC, ESA, and enhanced PIP for nearly a year now. I was diagnosed with cPTSD and substance abuse issues.
My therapist was concerned as certain treatments had not been working and wrote a letter for me to be referred to a Psychiatrist as she thought I clearly had bipolar type 2.
I saw the Psychiatrist yesterday and was they were extremely thorough, more so than the previous.
She diagnosed me with bipolar type 2 and borderline personality disorder and said the cPTSD was misdiagnosed.
My two questions are:
1) Do I have to inform each benefit awarded separately asap?
2) Will this trigger a re-assessment (I feel this doesn't change my day to day or needs etc.)?
I am extremely anxious about all of this, especially a re-assessment as that was so stressful to do all the forms, etc, I hope they can understand this new diagnosis doesn't make me any less debilitated, maybe more so.
Thanks
Dan

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

Hello DanDee,
The DWP say that you should notify them if your condition changes. I would argue that whilst you may now have a different diagnosis, the actual condition and the imapct it has on your life has remained unchanged therefore there is no need to tell them.
You don't say which level of awards you are currently receiving. It is possible that you could use the diagnosis as evidence that your current award is too low, but you are right, that would almost certainly trigger a whole round of form filling and assessments. A difficult call.

Hi Catherine,
Many thanks for the reply.
Apologies I should have said. I receive the highest level of all benefits; PIP and ESA, UC is housing benefit and can't be awarded any more.
I really am so anxious to rock the boat when I have been awarded everything I need to cope. This diagnosis really doesn't change anything really.
I've looked into things and it says about benefit fraud and payback but if they send the documents out again, it will just be same other than I now have a therapist that can back everything up and clarify even more.
Such a situation and really not in the headspace to be writing out those forms again.
Really unsure how to proceed.

Hi DanDee
I believe you are reading to much into the situation, as Catherine as stated in her post if your condition has not improved then you do not need to contact DWP.
As you say in your post you already get the enhanced PIP so you cannot get any extra benefits by reporting your health has deteriorated. If your health improves then yes, you do have to report a change of circumstances to the DWP.
