No response from DWP 11 months after assessment?

Hello All,

I am in receipt of PIP.

I had my second consultation /assessment early in November 2020 – I requested a copy of the PA4, which I received some 3 weeks later.

In late November 2020, I wrote to the DWP complaining about the numerous errors in the PA4 report.

My GP also sent a detailed supporting letter to the DWP in March 2021.

I have heard nothing from the DWP to date (in other words, up to October 2021, now ALMOST a year later!) – not since I received the PA4 consultation report in November 2020 after the assessment.

I suffer with mental health issues: I was briefly hospitalised in August 2021 and again last month (Police called to my flat by local chemist).

I am still receiving the monthly PIP payment.

Is this lack of contact from the DWP “normal”?

I posted the same question to the B&W forum over five months ago: I received great advice (as always!), but I have not contacted the DWP so far. Truth be told, I’m a bit (a lot) scared to contact the DWP.

Any advice appreciated, especially as regards what may actually happen in the near future regarding my claim.

Many thanks and best regards to All.

Nansen.

Hello Nansen,

In my experience such a long silence from them after the assessment is not normal.

I could come up with a few guesses as to what has happened, but they would only be guesses.

I appreciate that ringing the DWP is not the easiest thing for many people, including yourself. With that in mind, if you think you are currently being paid the correct award then I can see no reason not to continue to keep your head down.

Having said that, if I was in your place I would be looking for a friend who could be with me when I make the call to them just so that I knew. Which route is right for you is something which only you can judge.

If however the award you are currently receiving is not what you think you should be getting then you need to contact them fairly soon. One possibility is that they believe they sent you a decision notice and either it failed to leave their office or it failed to reach you. If this is the case, and you want to challenge it with a MR you only have absolute limit of 13 months from the date of the decision in which to do so, and they are not empowered to extend that time, however good the reason is.

I hope that makes sense, and please do come back to us if you have any questions.
Catherine
