Can They Sanction Me?

Can They Sanction Me? was created by Mike
I've been receiving basic UC and some PIP for about two years.

UC used to telephone me every few months, but as I was always covered by a sick note they didn't really do much but chat. These telephone interviews stopped for maybe a year or so.

They started again a while ago and they started asking for sick notes again.

They gave me a face-to-face interview at a Job Centre miles away. I cannot travel by public transport and, amongst other things, have limited mobility and high stress/anxiety.

So I put in my journal that I cannot travel, I'm in a high risk group and have not been able to have any vaccinations yet, and they said as I am covered by a valid sick note they will change it to a telephone appointment.

But no one called, although I did get an e-mail and text reminder that they expected to see me.

So I said this in my journal, they apologised and gave me another face-to-face appointment! TOMORROW.

So I made another journal entry saying basically the same thing, and told them I cannot attend. This time, someone asked when I filled out and posted the forms, and that my sick note had expired!

So I told him it had not expired and is valid until the end of April.

I've made three journal entries since, asking them to respond, and all I got is an e-mail and text reminder today that they are expecting to see me tomorrow.

Can they sanction me over this, and what can I do to get them to respond and acknowledge that I am covered by a GP's note for another 7 weeks or so?

Many Thanks

Hi Mike

You ask the question, Can They Sanction Me? The answer to your question would depend on what is written in your claimant commitment. Your claimant commitment is a contract between you and the DWP.

The conditions for claiming Universal Credit are set out in a "claimant commitment" that most people will have to accept at the beginning of their claim. If you are part of a couple, you will each have a separate claimant commitment that may be different from each other's.

There are 4 conditionality groups:

* Group 1. No work related requirements
* Group 2. Work-focused interview requirement
* Group 3. Work preparation requirement
* Group 4. All work-related requirements

if you breach your contract then you can be sanctioned.

I would advise you to seek help from your local Welfare Rights Organisation; You can find your local Welfare Rights Organisation to help you with advice by clicking on the link below and putting in your post code, it will then come up with a MAP with a list of agencies. advicelocal.uk
