UC query was created by Gentry
Hi, sorry to post about Universal credit but just after some help please.
Two weeks ago my daughter received a mandatory universal credit appointment for the 6th June and if missed could receive a sanction.

Now, she has been working for 6 months, not received or claimed UC since she started her job.
She replied and explained in the email there must be some mistake as she has not claimed and has been working.
She got a reply saying she was in the light touch group (which she was when claiming), and it has now changed to Intensive work search and that is why she must attend.
Also asked to update her Journal which she does not have access to anymore so as to find her work.

She replied back again saying she has not claimed anything for 6 months as she has been working.

In these 6 months no contact or any letters have been received, and it is as though she has re-appeared somehow.
To make matters worse this person noted that they have seen that Mays UC has not been paid to her and they have processed it!.
She pleaded with them to stop the payment and to sort this out, but now the payment has been made to her.

Can anyone recommend the best way to handle this please, as she is now worried sick about trying to prove she did not claim this when they want the money back.

Thanks for any advice.

OK, this issue here is that sanctions can carry forward onto a new claim for benefits so it is really better to resolve this now then leave it in the hope it will go away.

First of all, did she notify the DWP that she was working?

Did she close her claim for UC? If it remained open do her wages exceed her UC payment, resulting in the claim being closed by the DWP?

Was she told what UC backpay would be paid, the full amount without deduction or a reduced amount due to her wages?

If the former then there is going to be a recoverable overpayment which is going to further complicate things, she should not spend any money she receives from the DWP until this situation is resolved and if possible she should move the money to another account so it does not get mixed up with her monthly expenditure.
