I suffer from Autism severely and have severe depression, severe anxiety, borderline personality disorder and I don’t know how to navigate all the guides . My carer(mum) looks after me 24/7, she’s leaving me in September so I need to apply for PIP,UC LCRWA , but they are going to say I’m able bodied because I’m 18. I am severely impaired, disabled, I just don’t know how to start preparing my application. I score highly with the second part of the wca and score highly on the pip test, but I don’t know how to get started on application, how to get evidence on every single difficulty I have in my life, it’s exhausting to think about.

I just can’t navigate and explain every single difficulty in thorough detail. I don’t know what to do. And then if they assess me face to face, they’ll put words in my mouth, and say I’m young and fine.

This is an excruciating process, and I haven’t applied yet. I just don’t know what to do.

Hi Jordan123

If your Mum is your carer - can she not help you fill out the forms or help you find a service that can assist you? I've included a link so you can try and find what services are available in your area advicelocal.uk/.

Don't assume that the DWP will just say that you are able-bodied. There are plenty of people in a similar position to you who do get help. You do need to find a way of explaining your difficulties. We have comprehensive guides that will tell you the type of things you need to write, and perhaps your mum can help you with these. Just take one question at a time.

Hi Jordan123

I'm sorry you can't get support from your mum,. Try and see if you can get a service to help you. If you try to fill out the forms yourself - start now and do one question at a time. Come back and ask us if you have a specific question and we will try and help you.

Hello Jordan123

An idea might be to start a new folder on your computer and inside that folder create a text file for each activity that applies to your problems. Then inside that text file type out your problems and reasons why you cannot complete the activities reliably and read the advice from the guides for each activity. Like BIS advised take it at one question at a time. Take your time and go back and read them and if you need to make changes they would be easy to edit or rewrite. Also save and back up you folder each time you make a change or you add more information.

It may be worth looking at the local council social services, you have a right to a free social care assessment if you have an autism diagnosis and need support. Social workers can help with benefit claims.
If you are still in education, then perhaps there is a staff member who could help you find the relevant service.
