Pip MR? was created by Bella
I have received the result of my first Pip claim, I was awarded standard daily living and enhanced mobility for 3 years.
Firstly I want to give all the glory to God for blessing me. It was the most difficult thing I ever done in my life and I could't do it without Him, I lost the count of how many times I wanted to give up, even few hours before the telephone assessment.
I also want to thank you all for your guidance and support.
I agree with the the result however I expected a longer length as the problems are unlikely to get better.
I've read here that some people are challenging theirs results however the rate success is not very good.
After reading the assessor's and decision make's report I have found some things I could challenge but I would like your opinion please.
1. My understanding is when I have my review is pretty much like applying again therefore, instead of disputing the result now should I bring the topics again going deeper in my answers and reinforcing the problems during the review?
2. There are medications missing from the list I have supplied on my original form. On the telephone assessment she double checked that list as well but didn't mention everything on her report.
3. I am having memory problems and brain fog, I told her I had my husband with me and I was only able to answer the questions because I had notes in front of me to remind me however she said that there were no problems regarding my memory.
Things like these...so will it be okay to leave it for the review in two years please?
Many thanks,
Isabela

Hi Isabela
I can't tell you what to do here, because each person has to make the decision for themselves. The award lengths have become shorter. Yours is short, but not the shortest they offer (18 months).
You can wait until your review comes up and see if you could explain some things in more depth, but whether it will make a difference in the outcome - you can't predict. In terms of filling out a review form - some people write as if they have never completed a form before and others choose to reiterate where they are at that moment. Again - you have to do what feels right for you.
Unfortunately, very few assessors' reports are completely accurate.
You can challenge the issue of the missing medication, but the question to ask yourself is, would it actually make a difference to the points you were awarded on the individual questions? Only you know what has been missed, what the medication shows about your condition, how it helps or doesn't, and what impact that has on the specific PIP criteria.
You can challenge that she said there was no problem regarding your memory. Unfortunately, this is another very common remark, and you can say they were wrong, but is it going to make a difference to what points you were awarded? Only you can answer that.
Then you need to decide whether you want to put yourself through the MR process, whether it is worth the stress, and what outcome you are seeking.

Thank you for your reply Bis.
The missing and not mentioned things would probably give me 2 more points which wouldn't reach the enhanced rate however I would like to know if what she mentioned in her report would influence the review or I'll be assessed again please?
Even though I don't have the strength to go for a MR I'm trying to think ahead when the review comes.
Thank you for your patience with all of us.

Hi Isabela
It's impossible to say categorically whether a comment on an assessment report will have any influence on the next review. The fact is the assessor is giving an opinion, and the next assessor may not even read the previous report, and even if they do, they might have a different opinion. In terms of your medication - you just tell them what you take next time and how long you've been taking it.
Regarding the memory issues, you will say they have remained the same (or grown worse) from when you were last reviewed and give examples of how you are affected. Even if you challenge what they said, that comment won't be changed because if the assessor says they didn't observe it (in their opinion) - someone examining your case - can't turn around and said they did observe it, because they weren't there. It's common for people to use notes on such occasions, so that in itself is unlikely to convince an assessor that you have memory problems. You would need to go back to any examples you gave in your review form.
If it worries you, you can always send a letter saying that you are not challenging the award and you are not putting in for a Mandatory Reconsideration, but you want it noted that you disagreed with a couple of the assessor's points. Just be warned - that if you follow this route - you risk them not reading your letter correctly and thinking that you are putting in for an MR.
