Adult Disability Payment review was created by Margole
My son previously received PIP but was recently transferred to Adult Disability Payment. He/We have been notified that his benefit is due for review and that they will contact us next month (August). Currently he receives enhanced care and enhanced mobility.
My question is:
Have you any idea what the ADP review process will involve? Might it be similar to the new PIP ‘light touch’ review?
Last summer we/he notified the DWP (as he was receiving PIP at that time) that he would be attending university from September. We are now concerned that this could be viewed that he is more ‘capable and independent’ than he actually is and this could affect his ADP. He’s only actually away at Uni for less than 6 months in the year, the rest of the time he’s at home.
My question is:
Could going to university count against his eligibility for ADP even though his condition (Aspergers syndrome) is permanent? If you have any advice re handling the review process then I’d be very grateful to hear it as I don’t believe you have a help guide for ADP yet.
Many thanks

We haven't seen many ADP reassessments reported on the forum so information is limited but I would expect it to be similar to the original claim but probably based on an equivalent to the PIP AR1 form, not the AR2 intended for PIP Light Touch reviews.
Remember, whatever the form he is being assessed against the same criteria as before.
Is this a scheduled review or one in response to your notifying them that he had started university?
Realistically, his being at university is going to be a factor and you should expect to explain how he manages this and still has the limitations that resulted in the current award.

Thank you so much Gary.
It’s a scheduled review (set in 2020).
We advised them last summer that he’d be going to Uni but the review date hasn’t changed from the original date set.

In my response I should also have added that the initial letter pre warning him/us of the upcoming review (received a couple of months ago), stated that there would be an option to state that ‘nothing had changed’. That’s what made me question if this was likely to be more of a light touch review.
It also leaves me wondering how to handle the question….. ie nothing has changed regarding his condition as per his initial PIP application, although he is now at Uni (although he’s home for more time than he’s there) and this change was notified to the DWP (who were in charge of his claim at the time) a year ago.
I’d be so grateful if any advice you could offer. Should we tick the box (if we get the chance) to say that there is no change, because there isn’t a change other than what we already notified them of last summer, OR should we go into detail to explain that his condition/struggles are as previously outlined and that he gets support at Uni but spends more time at home than he does in Uni?
Many thanks.

If his condition and more importantly his limitations have not changed then you can tick the "no change" box but you must address the university attendance as assumptions will be made by those assessing him, likely leading to the removal of points.
