PIP Letter 0502 arrived today and PIP Advice was created by Dalglish60
Hi
Had in person face to face assessment 10/7/'23 at assessment entre that was absolute extreme mental distress!!1. Assessor said it would be around 6 wks before a decision would arrive in post....
Recently requested AP4 med report by letter last week as can't deal with phones etc. When I get the report back and the inevitable expected DWP nil points awarded that seems the norm in many pip applications, is it at this point I make a request for reconsideration /appeal and what format does that comprise? writing to them, filling a special form, or other kind of documents? Or do I have to wait for the official DWP decision letter people eventually receive?
But then got a PIP 0502 letter today: Gist of it was we now have all the information we need to make a decision we will write once we decide if an award can be made...Is this a standard letter DWP send out after assessment or something new? Or even good or bad ?
Sorry if this all a bit convoluted and confusing.

Hi Dalglish60
I have not heard on the forum claimants having face to face assessment, it seems to be quite rare.
The text message you have received is quite normal.
There is a small window for you to write to the Decision Maker but you will need to be quick.
When you have the assessment report you will have a better understanding of how the DWP Decision Maker has come to their conclusions and you will now be able to argue against them.
I usually use a highlighter to highlight any inaccuracies, once you have gone through the report you then set out why you are applying for a MR and go through each descriptor one at a time why you disagree with the assessor and try and match it with any supporting documents you may have sent in.
Understand that the assessor is offering an opinion when they say 'in my opinion' you can do the PIP activities, tackling these head-on is unlikely to be successful, you need to show that the basis of that opinion is founded on incorrect information, so try and refer to your evidence to undermine what they have said, remember they are just an opinion which is not based on fact.
Also, try and stick to issues that lead to your scoring points, I often hear members referring to the assessors spelling, as an example, whilst it may show a lack of professionalism, raising it as an issue isn't going to help you get an award.
Your primary task is to show that you meet the criteria, there are many reasons you may have failed, you need to address each of these but don't get bogged down in criticising the assessment report unless you can clearly show that it is incorrect, it is a lot easier to argue the facts of the situation.
Lastly, make sure that you understand the criteria that you are being assessed against you can put the best case forward that is possible but you won't score points if you do not meet the PIP Descriptors.
Make sure that your letter makes it clear that you are not requesting a Mandatory Reconsideration but you reserve the right to do so once a Decision has been made, if this fails then the next stage will be to apply for a mandatory reconsideration.
The first stage to challenging a Decision is for you to request a Mandatory Reconsideration, this needs to be done in writing to the DWP, within one month of the Decision, to the office that dealt with your claim, have a look at our PIP MR & Appeal guide; benefitsandwork.co.uk/guides-for-claimants/pip
For the CRMR1 form to initiate your MR; www.gov.uk/government/publications/chall...ork-and-pensions-dwp
When you have a better idea of the issues with your claim, come back to the forum and we will do our best to help.

Gary
After my MH Support Worker requesting a face to face assessment under equality act 2010 and reasonable adjustments, that's how they granted me such an assessment.
Plus haven't had a mobile text message its a hard copy pip 0502 DWP letter sent by post to me. Never ever phone DWP contact them always in writing form.
Haven't yet had the medical report back nor the official decision letter. So I currently have no decision yet either way.
Will wait for the report/decision letter. But your explanation of reconsideration and appeal process etc has me more confused than ever.
