Confused over award length? was created by LondonLady
Good afternoon!
Can anyone help me understand my sons award length. He is moving from dla to pip. The letter says he’s been awarded enhanced on both from 27th September 2023 to 23rd July 2029 (we are very happy with the award) I’m just trying to understand why he wasn’t awarded the full 6 years?
It says we will contact you after 23rd July 2028to see if your needs have changed and to check your getting the right amount
The letter also say they will pay me £641 on 23rd of October and that this is money they owe from 27th September 2023 to 22nd October 2023.
It also said my sons dla will stop on 26th September 2023 .
Basically, is it normal for them to award x years and say 10 mo it’s for instance ? Just trying to understand this.
Also, could the award stop in July 2028? Will my son need an assessment then or is it a review where I won’t be sent the full form again, but just the review form?
Thank you in advance

Congratulations on the award.
It's unusual but there are no rules preventing such a term.
Without anything else happening, then your son's award will end on 23/07/29, however, he should be contacted for a review in advance of that, anything up to a year.
in practical terms, there is no difference between a new claim and a review, the same criteria are used and any assessment, if one is required, will be the same, the only actual difference are the form and whether those assessing him refer to the documentation from his previous claim, which they often don't.
