Yes I think you're thinking on same lines as me there, I'm pretty sure they'll try the hard sell initially but I'm sure it's voluntary and people should be wary as once they willingly opt in there will be all kids of pitfalls etc possibly leading to sanctios. The bottom line in all this is many if not most claimants simply have no trust in anything the DWP does....and with good reason. I would be helpful to have clarity on if it's voluntary or not and also if as DM article suggests it's aimed at UC claimants only, although pretty much every article I've read on it, as well as DWP pres release is ambiguous at to whether the LCWRA claimats referred to are those in support group, as it were of UC framework or those in SG of ESA. None of the releases make those points clear.

Below is the relevant quote from Scope This was back in March when the spring budget first announced these measures
2. Universal Support programme announced
The chancellor has announced a new Universal Support voluntary employment scheme for disabled people.
This will match individuals with existing job vacancies and provide funding for necessary training and workplace support.
It aims to help up to 50,000 people a year with up to £4,000 spent per person.
This is good news. It’s something Scope’s been calling for over many years
It’s great that it will be voluntary – we know bespoke, voluntary programmes without the threat of sanctions work best.
But disabled people face major barriers getting into work, such as discrimination from employers and long delays getting the right support.

the other thing is that making it mandatory might be disability discrimination, so that might be one reason they're skirting the issue there

I've scoured internet resources official and otherwise on this issue but still have no clarity on the 2 original questions. a) is it aimed initially at UC claimants (on LCWRA of UC) only, as many of the reports suggest but don't actually clearly state. b) Is it a voluntary process where those UC and Support Group ESA claimants are concerned?
I understand people in LCW group don't have the option to opt out or politely decline this, but, as I understand it there would need to be legislation to scrap the rule/law whereby SG claimants cannot be mandated to carry out WRA? Is that also correct. I would be extremely grateful if any of the admins could give some clarity on these 3 issues as I am considering engaging in this, but need to know all the ins and outs first, as I do not and never have trusted the DWP.
