Having Problems Posting - 3rd Try (since Tuesday) - PIP Telephone Assessment was created by deannatrois
On Tuesday I had a telephone assessment. Did research (mostly from this site but others too), wrote notes on what I needed to say as I have physical problems but also Autism. Communication is my worst thing, and have problems processing, and I know after 1/2 an hour I tend to go a bit brain dead, unable to think let alone talk.
This was a two hour telephone assessment. It wasn't a good day, I stopped processing quite early. Had too many notes I couldn't read (processing problems, tried so hard but couldn't process all the information even though I took two weeks to try). I gave some wrong answers, and definitely didn't explain enough so vital information wasn't presented. At the end I made the worst mistake of all when asked "looking at good and bad days, how many bad days did I have in a week". She was very specific. I had already said I don't get good days (always in pain, just bad days and not quite so bad days). I should have repeated this but I didn't, I just paused, knowing there were words I should be saying and couldn't bring them to mind. I just said 3 out of 7 <were bad days>. So probably wiped out anything I'd said in past two hours.
When I am in situations like this, I don't think 'I need a break' I just try to answer the questions. I had asked about breaks the day before when they phoned to confirm the telephone appt.., and was told the biggest break I could be given was 10 minutes, which wouldn't even begin to allow my brain to reset and work. So I didn't even ask for a break.
So I am pretty sure I am going to lose my present enhanced PIP Care and Mobility. I didn't say over and over that things had got worse, described how but I think my final answer wiped all that out (less than half the time etc).
So looking for MR/Tribunal again.
Is there any point in sending a letter now to describe that the processing problems I described hit very quickly, and things I did not detail that I should have done. The assessor was actually very pleasant (the first one was rude and awful).
I don't at this moment in time know how accurate her report will be (the first one had ridiculous things in it I hadn't said and detailed physical tests she hadn't done). But if she is accurate, the fault this time will be mine if I lose the points I was given last time. I don't know how to explain this to DWP without it looking like I am lying, to get points they think I don't deserve rather than trying to make the information more accurate.

Hi deannatrois,
Well I totally know where you're coming from as both my UC and PIP assessments were inaccurate, and full of things I didn't say. It was things like "Keeps his bread on top of the cupboard and stretches to reach with ease", and "Carries his washing basket from the bathroom to the washing machine full of laundry" - These are just 2 examples of mine, but they really angered me, and when I put in for an MR - I told them that my bread is kept at arms length on the bench, so I can get to it easy, and also that I've never owned a laundry basket in my life. I put all my washing throughout the week in the washing machine, so it's out the way, then I pull it all out on a weekend, separate the whites and colours, and do 2 separate washes, and hang them on a clothes horse indoors. So, they got the point that I was calling their assessor a liar, but was more discreet about it, but they basically told me that they back their assessors to make judgements based on what I said on the phone, even if it's inaccurate. I mean, it's absolutely shocking, and really does anger you. It's like the other point, that if you can drive, you can peel a potato. I think a lot of the HCP's aren't trained properly to do things like this. One of my assessments with the HCP, (although they've started blocking out the names now), the copy I got of my report, someone that I know, actually knew the assessor and told me she was a 22 year old nurse, still in training, and I said "Come on then, that says it all - she doesn't have a clue about my lifestyle, or problems" - I ended up making pages and pages of corrections, and I believe this is why the DWP backed down and offered me PIP before it got to the courts tribunal. I had already had PIP the year before, and lost it after the assessment, despite none of my circumstances changing.
I think, by the sounds of what you've wrote, you'll probably have to go all the way to the tribunal stage unfortunately, but I'm pretty sure the chances of success are around 70% in your favour, because they have proper medical professionals at the tribunal stage.
Hope this helps,
Regards, Chris.

Unbelievably, I have been awarded enhanced Daily Living and Mobility for 4 years.
The assessor this time did seem quite different to my first one (who was aggressive, obviously knew nothing about the evidence/form I'd send in and erm 'made errors' as above in her report). This assessor knew what I'd said, and what I'd said previously lol. I did thank her at the end. Maybe she saw the difficulty I had once I'd gone brain dead, I don't know.
So can breath again for a while.
