LCWRA was created by JK
Hi was wondering if someone would be able to answer my question.
I have been awarded LCWRA after months of waiting for it. I wanted to try some part time work less than 8 hours a week. If I did work would the money I earned be taken out of my UC every month? Or would I be able to keep my UC, LCWRA element and any extra small earning on top?
How will this affect my LCWRA in the long run?
I haven’t received a backdated payment of my LCWRA yet and I’ve been chasing them the whole month via my journal but keep getting ignored. Any advice on what to do?

Hi JK
Welcome to the forum.
You might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explains where everything is; www.benefitsandwork.co.uk/guides-for-claimants/faq/forum
You raise a number of interesting questions, which I will try and answer;
If I did work would the money I earned be taken out of my UC every month? Or would I be able to keep my UC, LCWRA element and any extra small earning on top?
UC is different from ESA, it is not dependant from the number of hours you work, under UC there is a work allowance for claimants in receipt of LCW/LCWRA responsible for a child/ qualifying young person, the work allowance comes under two bands, low if you receive any housing element, high if you do not claim any housing element.
Once your WA has been deducted, if you are eligible your remaining income is then subject to an earnings taper of 55% this figure is then deducted from your UC allowance, the remaining balance is what you will receive from UC.
Until your UC entitlement goes down to zero, you will get a monthly payment.
The answer to your question is yes, money will be taken from your UC when you work, unless you earn less that your work allowance (Low £379 pm, High £631 pm) for claimants that are eligible for a work allowance.
LCWRA is paid from the 14 week after you gave your workcoach a fit note, this is called the assessment phase, we would recommend that you always add a note on your journal when you give your workcoach a fit note so that you then have a timeline to go from if there is any dispute at a later date.

Thanks for replying Gary!
I’m a little confused? I don’t have any dependents under me so does that mean I won’t be able to get a work allowance? I also do have a housing element on my claim.
I don’t want anything taken away from my UC, Housing and LCWRA awards, so does that mean I shouldn’t work at all?
I wanted to do a little work less than 6 hours a week to get me out of the house, but it seems like that isn’t possible?

I don’t want any money taken of my

I wanted to work to get myself out of
the house for bit every week but
nothing more than 6 hours.

Hi Eilish,
It took around 3-4 months to get a decision made. Hope that helps!
