Telephone assessment? was created by prawney
I was wondering if health professionals have to identify themselves as such when calling PIP claimants?
Yesterday my son received a call form a lady who gave her name and said she worked for the DWP. My son has been waiting for a decision or an assessment for his PIP review and the lady said she just needed some further information. My son was unavailable so the lady asked if he would be in today and if it would be ok to call.
Today the same lady called again giving her name and saying she worked for the DWP. My son is autistic and as before he asked me to speak on his behalf, which was not a problem. However I asked if this was an assessment as we had not received any letter with an appointment, the lady just said she needed some further information for my son's review. The lady went through all the questions we had added information for on the form, it lasted about 25 mins, I was asked things we never put on the form, and I didn't get to put my sons side across. At the end I was informed that the lady was sending her report today and we should hear something in 7 to 8 weeks. I thought it sounded odd and felt like I had just been through a medical assessment. My son later received a text saying that the DWP had received the report from the health professional.
I feel deceived as despite a number of opportunities the lady did not identify that she was a health professional and I was asked for more than some further information, I was not given an adequate amount of time to prepare that I would have if it had been an appointment for a telephone assessment.
Was any of this correct procedure?

Hi prawney
Welcome to the forum.
You might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explains where everything is; www.benefitsandwork.co.uk/guides-for-claimants/faq/forum
We have had a number of similar enquiries on the forum in the past, by the sound of your post your son had a paper assessment and the assessor needed to ask a few extra questions but how many is a few is debatable.
To get hold of the assessors report contact DWP and ask, if it was a paper assassment then it will be called PA3 otherwise it is known as a PA4 for a standard assessment.

Hi Prawney
In my view, if you don't get the outcome you're seeking, then you should put in a complaint. I hope it won't be necessary, but they should have properly introduced who they were, the purpose of the call and the fact they were undertaking a paper-based review.

Thank you for the replies.
It was the first time I have posted on here after being a member for some time. I thought there may be many similar posts regarding telephone calls and should have checked more carefully.
My understanding though was that I should have been given at least 7 days notice as the person went through the whole review pack, instead of asking just a few questions to gather some additional information.
Any advice if I should make a complaint now so it’s on record right away, or wait for award notification in the 7-8 weeks I was advised?

Hi prawney
You are correct, you should have been given 7 days notice for a full assessment, the assessor may argue that you did not have a full assessment, they contacted you to fill in some gaps.
As I have stated in my previous post, contact DWP and ask for a copy of the assessors report.
