Hi is it possible to buy car tax on line and still get your reduced rate or do you have to go to a post office? Thanks in advance?

Thank you. I went to our main PO and they said they did not process reduced car tax and I had to send my documents to DVLA. They also gave me a V62. Also will DVLA return my original PIP entitlement and if not how do I get a replacement? I found this all very confusing and I’m still not sure why they couldn’t do it. So I had to pay full price for my car tax. I’ve only recently been award PIP at the standard rate.

Hi Yammy,
I have PIP at the standard rate, and I wait for my car tax form, then I pay the full 12 months up front but 50% less, and I've done that the past 2 years, and it's always gone through fine. The first year however, because my PIP and car tax weren't in line with eachother, I sent a cheque for the full 12 months, with an explanation and copy of my PIP award letter, and I received a cheque refund back from DVLA corresponding to the difference.
Regards, Chris.

Thanks Chris, that makes more sense. It’s a pity the information available says you can tax your vehicle and get a reduced rate by going to the post office, nothing about notifying DVLA beforehand or that’s what I now understand having been told to send my stuff to the DVLA.

Hi Yammy,
Yeah I had to kinda figure it out, so I asked questions with my cheque payment, but give them their due, the lady from DVLA who replied was very thorough and helpful.
Regards, Chris.
