Hi Lesley
Welcome to the forum.
You might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explains where everything is; www.benefitsandwork.co.uk/guides-for-claimants/faq/forum.
If you are in receipt of a means tested benefit then you must inform DWP and your local authority if you have any savings over £6,000.
If you are not sure if you are in receipt of a means tested benefit, contact your local Welfare Rights Organisation; advicelocal.uk

Lesley, sorry for your loss.
It could be just worth checking with the solicitors, whether there is a legal way to hold the money in trust for you on the basis that you are a Vulnerable Person [as proved by your PIP award, industrial injury benefit and ill health pension].
If inheritance money is in Trust so you do not control it yourself, but get handouts as the Trustee/s see fit, this puts the money beyond the DWP's grubby fingers. But sadly it may very well be too late now your Mum has died. Let this be a warning to any other readers to try to fix this by getting a Trust set up while they can if likely to find themselves in this situation.
Also for goodness sake keep receipts for all spending you possibly can while using up the inheritance, so you do not get into difficulties over where it's gone when you need to re-claim. That's a minefield.
