Hello its probably too late in my situation but I got offer of another council flat in a different Borough. I would like to know about discretionary housing payment. I am currently on Housing benefit and would be moving to another area UC area.

I think HB would pay for two weeks after I gave notice to the landlord. Some charity promised to help me obtain DHP but now they closed my case. So I want to know for myself.

Could I get discretionary housing payment if I move from housing benefit to universal credit. Who would pay for that? Would this be my current council paying or the new council I would be moving to?

As I said an organisation wanted to help.me with this but after seeing my indecision they backed out and close my case so I'm trying to find out if this was possible to do on my own.

I would be fleeing abuse in the place where I live.

I also have savings of few thousand pounds.

Thanks,
Ages

Hi Agis

Why would you want to apply for DHP?

You have to apply to your local authority for DHP, DHP can be paid if you have a qualifying benefit such as HB or Housing Element. DHP is usually paid to claimants affected by the Under Occupancy charge or benefit cap.

Usually if you have savings then you will not be eligible to claim DHP, always seek advice from your local Welfare Rights Organisation, remember it is discretionary, therefore you are not able to appeal the decision if you are turned down.

Hello,The reason I want to move is because I'm being harassed for having disability and being lonely transgender person on the block of flats.

What I meant is dual housing benefit payment not DHP.

Who should I ask for dual housing payment in this situation; current council or universal credit?

Hi Agis

You need to speak to your local Welfare Rights Organisation, if you move into temporary accommodation due to harassment then you might be eligible but it is complicated and you do need specialist advice.
