AA and pension credit and carers allownace was created by andi1970
I am looking for some advice, please. My mum receives pension credit and receives £218 approximately a week for her pension and has recently been awarded an attendance allowance at a lower rate. Due to her disabilities, I think she should be receiving additional pension credit. She is partially sighted has minimal mobility and has carers three times a day who need to wash and dress her in the morning et cetera.
I am the principal carer for my mum and I too am disabled following an accident. I receive PIP and universal credit I am currently on the lower level of PIP but I think I should be on the high rate due to my very limited mobility. Ironically I used to work as a community partner for the DWP but I am unable to work out what which benefits my mum and I are entitled to and which would be the most efficient way of claiming this. If anyone is able to assist me it would be very much appreciated. Also is Mum entitled to Motability support for me to drive her thanks in advance

Hi andi1970
Welcome to the forum
It is hard to answer your question as we do not have all the information, I will give you a few pointers.
You say that your mum receives pension credit and receives approx £218, I assume your mum receives £218.15 pw Guarantee pension credit and no state pension, she also receives low rate AA.
You state that you are the principle carer for your mum, do you claim Carers Allowance as principle carer for your mum or does anyone else claim CA for looking after your mum, if anyone does then that would stop your mum from receiving a severe disability premium (SDP) with her GPC worth £81.50 pw.
You say that you are in receipt of UC, do you claim the care element for looking after your mum, if you do then your mum will not be able to claim SDP.
Once you reach state pension age you cannot claim a mobility component as a new claim, you get a mobility component with PIP not with AA.
I would advise you to seek advice from your local Welfare Rights Organisation for both yourself and your mum, they will be able to take all your circumstances into consideration when giving advice.

Thanks for this Gary ,
Have there been any significant changes in CA and elements since 2018 that's the most up-to-date handbook I have. Iwill look in there again and all ring our welfare support who are excellent . thanks you.
