ESA to UC migration was created by Fiona
Hi, I’ve recently been migrated from ESA to UC, I was in the work related ESA group but hadn’t seen a work coach in 6yrs. The last time I saw him I had to be helped out of the building and told I should be in the support group. I didn’t apply for this as the anxiety of it all was just too much. These past few years my health has deteriorated rapidly, on top of my bipolar and complex ptsd I now have fibromyalgia agoraphobia moderate arthritis of pelvis lumbar stenosis slac wrist & cervical stenosis. I’m 6 weeks out from having cervical disc replacement and needing the same operation on my lower back. I’ve been placed in lcw group and my coach just isn’t listening to anything I say. My doctors say I should be in the higher group aswell as my consultants and welfare rights. I’ve mentioned this to my coach today who totally dismissed it and said if I was to apply I’d lose the award I have and instead be moved further down. He’s now insisted I join the work well programme, I’m totally done in with all this. I can’t walk far even in the house. Occupational therapy have fitted rails all round my house because I’m prone to falls. Is there anything I can do about this?

Hi Fiona,
Would you be interested in making a complaint to a DWP manager? I can find the person responsible for your area if you give me the County that you live in. You can then make a complaint on your UC Journal.
Or maybe you could get a support worker or Welfare Rights to do this for you ?

Hi David, I would be interested in doing this. The County I live in is Lancashire. I’ve not stopped crying since my telephone appointment, my work coach just totally dismissed every single thing I said. I told him I have tons of supporting evidence but he said I should then work from home and if I try to go in the higher group I’ll be knocked down to basic. I honestly don’t have the strength for all this but I would be interested in making a complaint. Thankyou

Hi Fiona,
Generally I advise clients to complain via their UC Journal but in your case owing to the seriousness of the issue I would recommend emailing the DWP manager directly. I used to work for the DWP in UC and am aware of the complaints procedure. The manager you need to complain to in Lancashire is Amy Pond and her email is This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
You need to write down everything you have told me such as- " my coach today who totally dismissed it and said if I was to apply I’d lose the award I have and instead be moved further down" and "Occupational therapy have fitted rails all round my house because I’m prone to falls"
and " I now have fibromyalgia agoraphobia moderate arthritis of pelvis lumbar stenosis slac wrist & cervical stenosis. I’m 6 weeks out from having cervical disc replacement and needing the same operation on my lower back"
You need to state that you have been diagnosed with Bipolar disorder as this would signify you as vulnerable according to DWP regulations.
Let me know how you get on,
David
