Hi
I am on income based ESA and have been for about 15 years. I'm in the WRAG group. I filled in an ESA50 last March but haven't heard anything in response yet.
I live with my 88 year old parents. My mum had a stroke last June and is in receipt of attendance allowance.
I'm currently reading the guide about migration to UC. I haven't even considered looking into carer's allowance. I just assumed that caring was kind of like work so to say I'm caring for someone is the same as declaring myself fit for work.
I'm realizing this is, perhaps, not the case. Can you advise the pros and cons of claiming carer's allowance whilst on ESA. I don't even know if I'd be entitled. I seem to remember the guide saying it could affect whether or not you had to take part in work related activities.
At the moment, it just seems like one more thing to do so want to try and find out whether it's worth all the effort.

Your question is outside the remit of the forum.
You have not stated whether or not you receive the daily living component of PIP, if you do and you claim carers allowance then could affect your mums claim for Guarantee Pension Credit.
We would advise you to seek advice from your local Welfare Rights Organisation; advicelocal.uk, they will be able to take all your circumstances into consideration.

Apologies - I realize Carer's Allowance is beyond the scope of this forum but thought there might have been room for discussion regarding its relationship to ESA.

Hi Alison
CA is deducted from IR ESA £ for £ , you cannot be paid carer's allowance while you are receiving the same amount or more from CB ESA due to the overlapping benefit rule.
