UC Review Phone Call was created by Natasha
Hi, firstly a huge thank you to the moderators for all the help and advice you provide on the forum, it is greatly appreciated!
My sister is in receipt of UC LCWRA since December 2021. I have a Power of Attorney for her as she is Autistic and unable to manage her own affairs.
Yesterday I received a note in her online journal saying the DWP UC Review team are conducting a review of her claim and they will phone me on Friday 31/01/25 to carry out the review.
I see via the forum that there have been a couple of other claimants who have recently been contacted for reviews but they have all been asked to provide bank statements prior to the phone call. I have not been asked to provide any information, just been told to expect the phone call of Friday.
Can anyone shed any light on what to expect during the phone call please?
Many thanks, Natasha

Hi Natasha

There is no one size fits all answer to your question. The DWP confirmed last year in their annual report that they are using AI to sift claims for review.

So your referral may have been computer generated . I would ask at the very start of your interview why you have been chosen for a review.

Let me know how you get on.

Hi David, thanks for your reply. I finally had the phone call review (initial call) this morning following a failed call last week.
The reviewer informed me that the review was being carried out so that the DWP can monitor the expenditure of claimants and to keep details updated. He informed me that these reviews will be carried out every 6-12 months.
I was asked to supply 4 months of bank statements for my sister and to provide photographic ID too, which I duly uploaded.
The reviewer then stated that my sister would have to attend an interview which would be scheduled.
I explained to the interviewer that I hold a Power of Attorney (registered with the OPG) and that she is not required to attend any interviews. However, he kept referring to me as an ‘Appointee’ or ‘Special Appointee’ and didn’t seem to understand the difference between an Appointee and a Power of Attorney.
Do you have any suggestions on how to get the Power of Attorney registered with the DWP?
I have put a separate note in the journal for the attention of the work coach explaining that there is a Power of Attorney in place and for someone to please contact me to ensure the PoA is registered, but I don’t know what else to do.
My understanding is that due to the PoA being in place, my sister is not required to do any work commitments or to attend any meetings, however the person who carried out the review has already scheduled an appointment for next week for both her and I to attend.
I have once again explained in the journal that she is not required to attend due to the PoA but it seems to be falling on deaf ears!
Do you have any advice please?
Many thanks, Natasha

Hi Natasha

I take it that the DWP has a copy of your LPA.
If so you can send this message on the UC Journal -" I have submitted my Lasting Power of Attorney document to the DWP. Please can you confirm that this has been actioned by the issue of a CIS500 to the Searchlight team and that CIS Searchlight has been amended correctly. If I do not receive confirmation of this I will be obliged to send a Subject Access Request to the District Manager." You need to copy and paste this message so that you send it twice --firstly choose the option A Payment and for the second message choose Work Coach.

Let me know how you get on.

Hi David, thank you for your helpful reply.
I originally called the UC helpline to register my LPA – I provided them with the online code which allows them access via the OPG website to view the LPA (this can be done online now so that you no longer have to send copies of the original document).
I can see that someone in the DWP viewed the document (it is recorded digitally that they have viewed it), but it seems as if whoever viewed it either failed to record it or didn’t record it correctly.
Can I assume that I can still send them your response above if they have viewed the LPA digitally but don’t have an actual hard copy?
Many thanks, Natasha

Hi Natasha

Thanks for the update. Yes I would send the Journal message as I dictated. Digital access is the preferred route these days otherwise it would mean a journey to the Jobcentre, presentation to a Work Coach and they would have send a certified true copy to the DWP mail centre.
